Having a look through the squad on transfer market looks like there is a big summer ahead next year. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/newcastle-united/kader/verein/762 31 squad players registered currently (though Miley and Hall wouldn't need to be registered but will undoubtedly be a part of the squad next year regardless) but we have 10 Players with contracts expiring this year meaning next year there would be a squad of 21 (19 not including Hall and Miley) so potentially 4-6 squad places up for grabs while the wage bill comes down considerably with all of those leaving: GK: Karius, Gillespie RB: Krafth, Manquillo CB: Schar, Lacselles LB: Dummett* CM: Hendrick LW: Ritchie CF: Wilson (Combined wages of ~ £335k p/w) Sauce - https://www.spotrac.com/epl/newcastle-united-fc/payroll/ Is there anyone on the list above you would keep/extend? With the 4-6 openings what positions would you look to recruit as a priority? In order for me... CB CF CB LB GK CB
GK: Karius, Gillespie - Karius maybe rolling 1 year contract. Gillespie nah. RB: Krafth, Manquillo - I'd say yes to Krafth if he can stay fit again and perform well because he was impressive before his injury. No to manquillo. CB: Schar, Lacselles - Schar yes definitely, hopefully he'll be back up after this season, but a quality back up. LB: Dummett* - Piss off CM: Hendrick - PISS RIGHT OFF. LW: Ritchie - Nah. Like him but no CF: Wilson - I'd sign him up and hopefully he'll be 2nd/3rd choice next season. 2 year contract maybe? Although more than likely will be offered a decent contract elsewhere if he has another good season.
With you on Schar and Wilson but I think Krafth (he's on the biggest wages also) is redundant now - think Trippier, Ashby and Livarmento is cover enough next year, hopefully both the young lads have a decent season and kick on. Karius is a strange one - all our goalies are 30+ and think Dubs is near the end as well - while it's probably the most covered at present in a year or maybe two it'll start to be come a priority position.
