August feels so long ago now, and with all the hype and speculation at the time I might be mistaken, but was it mentioned that Barton had a clause written into his contract that would release him if we were (God forbid) relegated ?
Barton didn't leave Newcastle when they were relegated and I don't think he'd leave us either. But if we were relegated I'm not sure we'd keep paying him the 80k he's supposedly on now, maybe we would let him go.
