His wiki entry is, er... interesting: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Vetere Lots of jobs, lots of clubs and lots of languages.
Antonio Conte on Djed Spence "The fans have to be fans. I understand they can think everything but I see everyday what happens with in training. They try to do the best for the team. If they trust me, they trust me, but it's my decision". —————————————————————— Really feel for Spence, imagine seeing Emerson put in average performance after average performance and then hear your manager say that.
It really does beg the question as to what in the **** is Conte seeing in Emerson as a WB that makes him a better option than Spence? It’s honestly bemusing me.
You and me both, I can’t imagine Emerson tears it up in training either. Spence and Sarr probably need loan moves in January as neither will be getting many minutes for the foreseeable
Must be hitting Beckham-esque crosses in training or something. I doubt it will but can only hope the fan pressure may make Conte reconsider giving Spence minutes. It’s interesting that he’s seemingly aware of the fan’s views on the matter. Sarr should’ve been loaned in the summer, along with Gil and White, possibly Tanganga too. None are getting a look-in and it’s killing their development, these are players that the club wants to build/ part build its future on but it’ll be impossible if they don’t get the time to develop. Stinks of KWP all over again.
Conte also said that Doherty isn't ready. **** knows where that leaves us. He was subbed off after 76 minutes against Scotland and played 90 minutes against Armenia. I'd prefer to see him starting than a switched Perisic. If he can't do the full 90, then bring on Spence.
He keeps saying players aren’t match fit, but the only way they will get match fit is by playing games.
Bissouma's the worst case of this, as he's played a total of 160 minutes this season - and 90 of those were against West Scam
Well if the manager doesn't know more about the suitability of our players than any of us then we are truly ****ed
I’m not for one second saying I know more than Conte but doesn’t mean I have to agree with everything he does. He’s a top manager but I find some of his decisions a bit odd.
And apparently he came back from the international break with 'muscle fatigue' I assume because he had to use them whilst he was away!
Setting the "steel man" position, Doherty : 1. was not PL 90 mins match fit (if Conte means this as "ready" ) 2. not physio fit (ie a risk to play anywhere close to 90 mins) So for the Ireland FA : - If 1 is true, then they have done Spurs a favour by getting the minutes in his legs - If 2 is true, then they have been taking a big risk with the player and Spurs need to publicly have them on it So which is it ??
Conte said it yesterday, so it's after the Ireland games. He's still not ready, in whatever context Conte is using. I believe this is different to the "not ready" that he's using for Spence. I have no way of proving or disproving this belief, though.
I think with Spence it’s purely this issue Conte seemingly has with playing young players. Have a feeling he’s just being overly stubborn on the issue now too knowing that there’s groans about his persistence with Emerson coupled with Spence’s sister’s Insta story (and fans annoyance at his lack of chances). Feels like a cutting nose to spite face scenario.
With Spence there could be a "star is born" moment. Unless there is an injury plague the best way to have a look is to give him a 30 min sub run out. Sadly Spurs this season have not been in control of games by then to make this less of a risk.
There’s an argument to say the bigger risk is playing Emerson, seeing as Conte’s systems revolve around effective WBs and the less said about Emerson’s productivity the better. But for a reason beyond anyone’s comprehension bar the gaffer’s, it’s Emerson he sticks with.
