From Villa, he must be happy with targets and progess and budget given by Short so it all must be part of the plan?

he did not leave Villa for Sunderland so I don't think that figures in our plans, not sure I catch your drift.

What I'm saying is O'Neill walked away from Villa as he wasn't happy with the clubs direction, transfer policy, selling his top players.

He seems happy enough at Sunderland so far pre season except for results, which would suggest our planned transfers etc he must be happy with.

So maybe we are panicking a bit early.

    That's all?

I am concerned, come September if we still have not signed anybody, I will be having a coronary.

fortunately though, I am still pretty relaxed as I expect, and always have done, that most of our business will be done on the last few days of the month.

He was at villa for a few season done really well, and want to push on. He could leave with his name intact. We are a different story did well at the start ten it dropped off, if he walks now then he will have failed and seen to throw teddies out more here than villa.

It most definitely wasn't. Didn't the players celebrate when he left...

Sure Short has given him a budget which you can assume was for say 2 strikers and a creative midfielder, however if again what we assume was MoNs first call Fletcher is now costing a lot more than at first envisaged that leaves a lot less for the other players.

Which is why for the life of me I cannot see why we have not moved onto our other targets, it seems incredible that we have been in need of a couple of strikers for 18 months and with the season about to start are kicking off with the one handicap no football team can surmount that is a goalscorer

There was a lot more to it than just transfer funds. He'd lost the players when he left Villa supposedly. There were numerous texts flying about between players. They were sending texts with champagne bottles when it was announced he was leaving. The players hated his training methods which were mainly based around fitness, felt he was overly loyal to certain players, and kept playing players out of position.

I can't remember exactly but did Richard Dunne not ask on behalf of the players if they could introduce more ball work into the training sessions, to which he replied bluntly "get your trainers" i.e. you'll run some more! <laugh> Mind this was all paper talk and they can't lie straight in bed.

Undoubtedly though he was upset when Lerner told him the extravagant spending could not continue, and he was frustrated that the likes of Young, Milner, Downing were pining for moves.

I don't think he'll be abandoning Sunderland any time soon. He has a point to prove and would be basically slated as a failure. Not in his nature.

Almost all true except for the fact that Milner had gone and he'd been told on of that money would go towards transfers. £24m and none of it to spend... That would **** any manager off.

I like the guy but he seems really ****ing pig headed to me. It would make him a nightmare to have a drink with but I think it will help as a manager. He certainly won't run off until he's done something decent of note.

I meant that, 'on' should be 'no'. That was the whole point of my post but one typo buggered it.

Undoubtedly is pig headed, but a lot of top bosses are (SAF, Wenger all have a similar trait) Ah yes I forgot about Milner going and him not getting the money or at least the profit.

I've said before I think he is very hit and miss in the transfer market, 8.5m Reo Coker, Warnock 6m, Davies 8m. They all seem a little OTT and more to do with getting british players. But then Milner, Young, Downing all made whacking profits.

He was brought up under the Cloughie school of management too. i.e. he's always right!

Yeah there's good and bad to it but I think the good beats the bad. Just a frustrating period of time for us at the moment. Being linked to Milner again today. Wouldn't cry about that.
