Consider this idea: Agger, Affelay, Tello.

So, Daniel Agger has been linked with a big move to Barcelona. Agger is a top defender, suits our style perfectly and provides a perfect balance at CB when paired with Skrtel. If Agger goes it could put a real dent in the spine of our team.

But last season, while our defense was good, we struggled in attack. We lack pace, balance, composure, creativity, and most of all goals.

Two players we have been linked with are Affelay and Tello, who both play for Barcelona. They have the potential to fix the issues we had in attack last season and are rumoured to be available at reduced fee's.

So, if Agger is available for £22million, would any of you like this deal.

Tello and Affelay, plus cash, for Daniel Agger.

Its a tough decision, as even though it strength us at one end, it weakens us at the other. But it could give us a bit extra to invest on a CB.

If we did this we'd hve:

    -Suarez------------------------Affelay-
    -Downing----------------------Tello---
    -----------------Borini-------------------
    ----------------Carroll-------------------

and they are pretty young to.

But Agger is settled and established with us.

    So, what are your thoughts?

Inresting, would rather we got Richards and johnson off City in a swap though.

  3. We have Skrtel, Coates, Carragher, Wilson and Kelly for CB, would we be short? I know none of them play in the same way as Agger but if we have two CB that like to sit then doesn't that allow the two full backs even more license to get forward? Also lessons the burden on the DM but wouldn't expect that to make too much of a difference.

No idea about Affelay and Tello <ok>

I'm not sure City would be up for that. At least not both.

I think they would be dumb to move Richards out. He's the only surviving member of there average years. Plus he's a rock of a defender.

I agree it might be hard to pull off, but would be great if we could do it!

    I agree.

    Lets compare.

    ----------------------------Reina-------------------------------
    ---Johnson------Skrtel----------Richards------Enrique---
    ----------------------------Lucas-------------------------------
    ----------------Gerrard------------Henderson---------------
    ----------Johnson----------------------------Suarez---------
    ----------------------------Borini-------------------------------

Subs: Jones, Carragher, Kelly, Spearing, Downing, Shelvey, Carroll.

I'd seriously expect Johnson to play on the right a lot, cutting inside. I'd be a tad concerned about Skrtel and Richards preferences to plat RCB.

    ----------------------------Reina-------------------------------
    ---Johnson------Skrtel----------Coates--------Enrique---
    ----------------------------Lucas-------------------------------
    ----------------Gerrard------------Henderson---------------
    ---------Suarez--------------------------------Affelay---------
    ----------------------------Borini---------------------------------

Subs: Jones, Carragher, Kelly, Spearing, Downing, Tello, Carroll.

Both 1's look good on paper (screen).

  12. Something about he is always interested in good players and if a deal can be done then they'll work on it. Clearly talking about Messi <ok>

Problem these days is swap deals seem almost impossible to negotiate unless youth players are involved. Plus any signings from City or Barca would instantly blow the reduced wage budget. If Agger is sold I would hope we'd get at least £25 mill so I would want us looking for a good value (Hyppia-esque) centre back and bolster our attacking options as well. I think I must also be one of very few fans on here who wouldn't want us breaking the bank for Adam "blind alley" Johnson. Any player who's that willing to sit on the bench soaking up the wages I have serious doubts about.

I was going to say Messi, on loan maybe for 12 months with an option to buy for about £6m...
Maybe put him with the reserves for a few months to show what he has got :emoticon-0105-wink:
