It could never, ever work again in he UK.

Not a chance, that it could happen, although it has it's merits, but still, no way, could it work
    Politics
Religion, Loss of earnings,,, and so on..it;s impossible...

How, or what law would you make, to make national service, or are you against it?

    Still have it in Finners!

Extremely difficult to bring it back to the UK. It would be a good way to sort out national respect, as opposed to fueling nationalism. If that even make sense?

Against it. Fair play to those who join but the way our country is you cannot force people to fight for it.

Not with the current climate of discontent.

The British armed forces are 100% voluntary & that's the way both the commanders & the rank & file seem to want it.
Personally, I see nowt wrong with the reintroduction of NS but I doubt it'll ever happen.

Honestly I'd sooner go to jail than kill a man "for queen and country.

That said I probably wouldn't have as big a problem killing one of those who run the country.

Would we want it again? Looking at the some of the clips that roll off the near by estate I wouldn't trust them to make a cup of tea let alone a gun or my life. Nah **** that ****. Screening soldiers for stronger, more intelligent, more loyal candidates, that's the way for me. If you're building an army, build it strong. Don't fill it with Jeremy Kyle halfwits.

There is a standard sadly lacking compared to yesteryear within the younger age group be it manners ,discipline and respect ,the armed forces teaches this from day one and in the majority of cases it serves most well after their leaving ,i am not sure if conscription is the right way however some form of improvement which aids the fabric of society is badly needed in my opinion.

Would modern warfare ever require such numbers of brawn again? War is going to require more and more technicians while the need for ground troops decreasing. Drone warfare is undoubtedly the future of combat. Fair dos on conscription if we can throw the unsuitable back. If we screen out the losers and say 'nah your ok, we'll let you off, get yourself back to your estate and eat some more mud'. But I honestly think we'll be able to be choosy in future because of technology. We'll have to be choosy, don't want those idiots controlling unmanned ground vehicles or aircrafts, no civilian would be safe.

The armed forces always need laborers i suppose but I honestly think there's more idiots than we'd need laborers.

[QUOTE="Funky Dick, post: 7781903, member: 1023141"]Would modern warfare ever require such numbers of brawn again? well it would certainly require mass numbers on the ground..

without a nuke war, do you think any other kind of conflict could end, without boots on the ground, in mass numbers?

not a case of avoided it ,a straight answer would be no it would not work as you state ,but the points i have made seem very relative to how i see our younger element today i do believe it requires some form of plan to addressing the points i highlighted as it appears lots of codes of conduct have all but dissapeared. IMO of course.
