Well i was just reading this article, and it mentions Conor Wickham a player i saw many times in the Championship and never felt he was ready for the step up. Yet he clearly had the potential and in the long run he will be a great signing for you, but i wondered is he ready for the PL? I just wondered what role had Steve Bruce given him really? And could it be worth a loan back to the Championship?
He's only played about an hour so far this season. I saw him last night at Brighton and while not having a great game you could see the potential. He played up front as a striker last night, what's that you say ? A striker ? Playing for Sunderland ?
Saw the Darlo game and the brief appearence at the mags game. He is one for the future, but hope the fans get behind him and want him to succeed rather than look at him as a stick to beat Bruce with. Ps Im neither Bruce in nor out (despite being baffled by yday's selection).
I don't know how a lot of people seem to have an opinion on him already. I don't (and I'm sure I'm not the only one) know yet, its far too early.
£8.1m to loan a player back to the championship Sorry mate but this won't happen - what I've seen of him (admittedly limited but at U21 and Championship level via TV) he looks a very good player IMO and good enough for the PL - as long as he's not thrown in at the deep end and played every week as he'll get burnt out.
I'm puzzled by you Mackems are surprised Bruce doesn't field many strikers. At Wigan he always played Rodallega alone up top, who i regard more as a sided forward or second striker a la rooney. Then he played 2 deep playing defensive midfielders most of the time. Bruce is a defender and that's how his teams are set up. Looks like Wickham is third choice together with the korean guy. I highly doubt Bruce will start many matches with 2 up top this season. His style is defensive. Not as bad as big sam though.
Bruce has got to get a result on saturday,so he must play two strikers up-front,and "go for it"IMO.Start with Gyan and Ji up-front,and be positive.
