Was just listening to grimsby on the radio on the way home. OK its only some nobody on 'Umbersard, and it is only against some team from the Blue Square League, but they are bigging up Conor Townsend. I always thought this kid looked good. Strong going forward and solid in defense. After Grimsby, perhaps he should have a stint on loan at the next rung in the ladder. Back in time for Andy Dawson's accession to Scunny coach.
Nice to see him doing well. I was at school with him but he always seemed to be injured in PE so I hardly saw him play, and most of the lads thought another lad was a better player than him. I think he's pretty versatile too, he's obviously primarily a left-back but he's played on both wings and even centre back which is weird because he isn't massive in either dimension.
I watched him at Kettering V Grimsby a couple of weeks ago and was left a bit disappointed. Every time I thought he had made a good defensive tackle the player stood up to reveal a midfielder who continually had to cover for Townsend who seemed to spend the entire game out of position. This would not have been too bad as he had clearly been given permission to go forward, but rarely got the ball in an advanced position and pretty much lost it every time he did. I do not want to sound down on him on the strength of one performance, but having heard good things I was surprised at how little he got involved in the game.
