Sunderland win race for first talks with Connor Wickham. Ipswich Town have agreed a £13m fee from Sunderland. Should Comolli have to move fast and match the fee, or we should look elsewhere, cheaper and more experience alternative ?! Personally I like him, I think, Wickham is certainly mature enough and big enough to terrorize Premiership defences. Is this true or just plain rumours ? p.s. sorry for my broken english, also newbie.
Welcome to the board, I rate Wickham but not at that reported price. It's a difficult one I suppose it's down to the management.
i'd take him for £12m. the boys dream is to play for Liverpool FC, he'll give more heart and effort then the likes of Voronin, Babel & Robbie Keane ever did
I'm sure we could offer around £12m and throw in a young prospect to loan to them, like the way we're planning on sending Jonjo Shelvey to Blackpool. It will then be down to the player, Wickham will have to choose between Sunderland, or Liverpool. I wouldn't want to be so ignorant that I'd guarantee he'd pick Liverpool, after all, Sunderland will be offering a closer chance to the first team.
We already have Dirk Kuyt, Luis Suarez and Carroll to play upfront. I won't cry if we miss out, tbh. Even though he is immensely talented.
Would love to see him here, I can just see an English partnership of him and Morgan in the future. I have a feeling he won't have the last say in the matter though and Sunderland will nick him because they've offered more. I think £12m is a bit much for a relatively young unproven striker, but then £35m was too much for Carroll so perhaps our argument is English prospects come at a cost.
but the problem Sunderland have with that is, yes they offer first team football but its no more or less then what we're offering at the moment. the stark difference is that Liverpool are activley looking to change that and push for a place in the champions league while Sunderland will be lucky to grab a europa cup place in the next 5 years (A Europa cup place will be the absolute minimum acceptable requirement for Liverpool)
£9m plus £4m add-ons. It's too good for Ipswich to turn down and they want us to match it or forget it.
Swap deal for N'gog then i'd be happy. 12m is way overpriced for what will be a second backup striker, and he's totally unproven in the prem.
£9m + 5% sell on fee + first refusal if it goes pear shaped + Jonjo Shelvey on loan for the season Done, imo
Some of you being too much Football Manager Jokes aside, I reckon Liverpool will most likely offer some cash but quite a few clauses that will be triggered by appearances and goals etc.
I signed Connor Wickham on that game for my Cambridge United side but he couldn't force Ishmal Miller out of the team EDIT - Maybe on that basis we should sign Miller? ... Better not say that too loud or it wil appear in the Daily Mail
I had bought him for £3.8m for Liverpool before my laptop's hard drive got corrupt. I never got a chance to give him a go
he had a great goal/game ratio but Millers was much better, I then signed Edin Dzeko as I challanged for the champions league so he never got the chance, I then resigned from Cambridge and spent 3 years as England boss (picking up the world cup & european championship) before becoming Liverpool boss. I've just looked at Cambridge united and he is still there (Miller is now at Club Brugge & Dzeko is 35 years old playing for Lincoln City) unfortunatley he is now being kept out of the side by Okaka & Kelvin... some players just don't get a break EDIt - I brought him for £220k
He would get first-team football at Sunderland as they only have Gyan up-front. I would guess he is thinking about getting an opportunity in the Premier League and we have Suarez and Carroll up-front. I think he is a crackin player though and I can see him going far in his career.
Smug little... I reckon Wickham would work well with Gyan, both of them have a good shot on them and can work a good partnership. Could be good for Sunderland who need a long term replacement for Darren Bent. (Or have they signed a replacement yet?)
Sorry for the double post but there has been a development on this subject. Sky Sports News has reported that Sunderland are believed to have made a formal offer with an initial fee of just £8m Click here for the article
if the initial is only £8m then you would think he is worth a go but only if we can defo offload ngog!
