Hope so - he's been interviewed and said he will get the goals we need from a forward!!: http://www.journallive.co.uk/safc/s...m-i-ll-get-the-goals-for-safc-61634-30145037/ CONNOR Wickham is ready to be the goalscorer Sunderland have lacked since selling Darren Bent, driven on by the fear of failure. Twelve months ago today Bent joined Aston Villa. The Black Cats have been on a downward spiral since, at least until Decemberâs appointment of new boss Martin OâNeill. Despite the upturn he has inspired, the lack of a prolific striker remains their most pressing priority, but one they seem unlikely to address in the January transfer window. They paid more than £8m for Wickham last summer hoping he could fill the void. After a slow, injury-hit start to his Premier League career, the 18-year-old believes he can start doing that. âI feel I am ready to step up now,â said a player who returned from injury as a substitute against Chelsea. âIf I get a run of games and I score a goal â if you get one then you get another and another and another. It boils down to when I can earn my place back in the team. âHopefully when that happens I can score the goals we need.â Many is the talented youngster transferred with high expectations, then fail to fulfil them. Not being another is motivating the former Ipswich Town forward. Wickham added: âSome boys have gone for big-money moves at my age and got lost in the game. âI do not want to be one of those where in a few years time people are asking, âWhere is he now?â --------------------------------- I like what I read - also got his feet on the ground firmly - hope the lad becomes a hero for us
I know you don't need me preaching at you, but with this lad I think you need to be patient - obviously difficult given your current striker situation, but look at Carrol, he didn't really come good until 20/21, but when he did he was 'worth' £35m.
There's a lot in this. I think John Aldridge played about 15 games for Ireland before he got his first goal. After that, he couldn't stop scoring. The longer it goes on, the more tense in front of goal you become. I hope Connor gets an early one. I think he could do well if that happens.
I think MoN will try and mold Conor into a Niall Quinn type player Great in the air, great at holding the ball up, great skill for a big man & can chip in with a few goals. If he can do that a get Campbell to feed of him we could be set. I really think Conor & Frazier could be a great partnership. We just need to give the lad time he is only 18 one or two more seasons i think he will be a top player for us
Get him in the side, I think he is a better player than Bendtner now and he is far hungrier to succeed. I know he is young so I think they do need to be careful with him but I really think if were playing 1 up then Wickham is our best option. As others have said Wickham and Campbell look like they could be a fantastic strike force. Its scary how good Wickham could be in 3 years time.
If we can get some more quick wins under our belt then that would give us enough breathing space to try the younger strikers out without the "fear of relegation" looming over them, even coming off the bench.
Think he will get goals and become a very very good player, hopefully with us. Bendtner has also looked better when CW is on the pitch however, I think if fit both Connor & Frazier should be given a run of games together. If not then go into the transfer market in the summer.
If we are playing Wickham and Campbell up front where are we playing Sess'? Are we playing him wide? Dropping Mcclean or Larrson?
