I am convinced that we should make sure that we sign Connor up on a long-term contract. He was a success last season when he returned from loan and scored the goals that kept us up.He must be worth a contract at least as good as Altidores because he can't score!!It must be difficult working-out how much a player is worth, but surely,if you have this player "on board",it is easier to sign him up and keep the continuity going. Many clubs are now bidding silly-money for players.Young Connor is worth a hell of a lot more than some of the players that are "up for sale"

Completely agree mate. He never had a real shot until the end of last season and when he got his shot he grabbed it with both hands and had a massive hand in keeping us up. Gus seems to want to keep him and he still has a lot of career in front of him. For all his positives Joey can't score and fletch looks dis interested, Conner looks like the only play who can score. We should be getting him signed and finally giving him the chanc to fulfill his potential

No offence but you do realise that 4 of your last 5 threads have been about Conner's contract don't you fella? Nowts changed since the first one. He still hasn't signed one and we don't know why. I don't know what you want us to say that hasn't already been said. No progress, nothing to see here.

I'd pay him the £42k he apparently wants personally - Against Utd he ran them ragged - we have no other striker at the club able to do what he did last weekend. He should have a 5 year deal as he is only 21 years old and is still developing as a footballer - best years are definitely ahead of him

He's 6 months off being given the opportunity to get a big pay day, in January he can talk to who he wants no?

This is the problem once again we have been left high and dry by poor boardroom decisions. Conner has been dealt all the cards. At least due to his age we might recoup some of the expenditure and get some time on the pitch from him this season. Unless Brucey or someone else offers us 12m. this week.

Until 6 games before the end of last season he wasn't worthy of a new contract at all. Not sure what they could have done myself. It would be like offering Jozy or Graham a new contract in the hope they came good, they'd be hell on. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but wasn't available prior to that run of form where he hadn't done enough his entire Sunderland career. The Board has my full backing on this one.

Exactly! I'd be happy if he stays and gets a new contract for a reasonable wage, but if he buggers off and he's replaced I wont be shedding any tears.
I still think he's worth keeping because he'll hopefully improve over the next couple of seasons - I don't see him leading the line now. Some are going on like he's the new messiah just because of 6 games at the end of last season.

We genuinely have a real problem with our strikers, and we are going to struggle if we don't get some quality in in the next 6 days!

If he didn't have that good run of form last season do you reckon they'd have just released him then Bri?

Sunderland are in a catch 22 here a bit, don't play him and he'll definitely leave, play him and if he plays well, he could get loads of offers... and leave.

Harry Redknapp will have already promised his agent that he'll be on £100k a week to come to play from him.

5 games does not justify £42,000 per week over 5 years, not in any world.

No, we shouldn't pander to the lad.

Now, if people could add to the existing threads, rather than keep starting new ones on the same subject, constantly, that would really benefit the forum.

If he runs down his contract but scores 12-15, his tribunal fee will be very high anyway.

    Agreed.

I think it's highly possible. I think we'd be trying to sell him right now and there'd be queues around the corner from Championship clubs. Leeds, Sheff Wed, Ipswich would be putting in the offers, not premiership clubs and we'd be trying to scrape back a couple of million.

Have to play him if we cant sell him as the more interest in January the more we can argue the price up in the tribunal. If he doesn't sign in the next 2 days id sell him.

While I agree with all of your comments, my concern that having spent X millions on the lad, he was not given much encouragement from the succession of managers at the club, subsequently as his contract was running down we should have sold him on or extended his contract 2 years back. Instead it has just been left to run down and he walks away.

Oh i agree, one thing I'll never budge on is that the club screwed his development. Quite simply not enough game time. Short loans and limited development games. He's spent most of his time here not playing. Managers saw him in training every single day and non fancied him as a first team starter. He should have been having season long loans, or like you say, sold him seasons back. Don't think it's boardroom, I think the fault lies lower, it's Bruce, O'Neil, PDC/Di Fanti, Bally and Ged who I blame. Up in the board room we had a yank who doesn't know the game, an MP and a barrister. Buck stopped with the staff who 'know' football for me like.
