Scored again today against Leeds and described by Sky Sports as the stand out performance.

I have been very critical of the lad and have stated that I wouldn't be too disappointed if he left (for a decent price) so a new striker can be brought in but should we hold our horses a while and see if this latest stint at Wednesday has sparked him to better things?

If we stay up we need a striker in form? Would he be able to transfer this new form to the EPL for us? If we were relegated, would he be a perfect Championship striker, thus worth hanging on to?

Am I just seeing a player who has found his level and if we could sell and recruit a better striker would that get us the goals to keep us up, or should he be given a chance over Altidore?

    Thoughts lads?

Certainly an interesting one. Always believed when we first got him he should have gone back to the championship for a loan move, he needs regular games and we can't offer him it, I'm sure Gus will be taking note, if he can improve his hold up play ,and first touch, he could fill altidores boots next season if we go down. Definitely needs to stay out on loan for the rest of this year though, certain he'd want to stay too.

I will be gutted if we let wickham go.

He is a young lad and will not hit his peak for 5-6 years. He has bags of potential.

He has been mismanaged with us IMO. He should have been going out on loan when he first came. However Bruce totally screwed up and our forwards have been so bad he has been rushed in. He still has yet to have a decent run in the team.

People say he is a flop or not good enough. Remember we paid a lot of money for potential not the finished article.

    Keep him for me.

Watched him today. He has put himself about helped set up a goal, scored and he is growing in confidence. He has worked very hard for his team too.

Hope he keeps it up. Should have been out doing this 2 seasons ago but never got a long enough loan spell. Won't entertain him in our first team now though. If he's the answer we're doomed. Would be just as risky putting all our eggs in one basket signing a championship striker. Plus there are things to take into consideration like he's playing in a more direct 442 with a strike partner, It's a million miles from the philosophy we're playing here. Can Connor fashion his own chances against premiership defenders, Doubt it. Will he have the space and time on the ball he's getting in the Championship? No way in hell. Can he contribute in build up play, not for me, if anybody has a touch worse than Jozy it's Connor.

Na, he's not good enough. He's direct muscle not a footballer. I think we need someone who can retain the ball, move with the ball, and packs plenty of pace. He brings nothing to the table for me.

Goalkeeping error, beaten at the near post. Won't be many keepers who'd let that in in the premiership. It's a different world imo.

He's more than learnt a shot with this loan spell.

I really didn't see it coming.

I've seen loads do the same this season in the PL. I tell the lads I coach toshoot across the goal but I guess keepers expect that. I'd expect a keeper to do better hut having watched it and replays on Sky it looked a good finish to me and was hit hard. 8 in 9 is 7 more than Altidore has all season and Weds weren't exactly top of the league when he went there

I would keep him, he can do it all day long in the Chumpionship, the Premier league is a different proposition - one for which we have all seen he is not yet ready for, emphasis on yet.

So I take it he wants to be a footballer again..........

They'll always be few but we've been putting shots at near post all season and not one has gone in for us, that I can remember anyway. See post #7 as to why I don't think he can help now. But I'm not writing him off just yet. He'd drown in our 451/433 variation, just my opinion of course. He doesn't bring what we need. Fletch and Jozy has his attributes covered. We need penetrating pace with a neat touch and good technique. He has none of it anywhere near premiership standard. I'd rather he continued his development instead of cutting short yet another loan spell for the poor lad and we signed what we need.

He's never been giving a proper run in the team and we have totally mismanaged the lad. I've seen potential in the Connor, even if not many other people do.

    Altidore couldn't lace his boots.

Hope so, got a feeling it we may need to develop him into his next contract though. We wouldn't have had to if he'd been on season long loans the last two seasons. People say he was a waste of 8m, I say the way we've handled his development is the biggest injustice. Feel for lad, hope he's enjoying his footy and hope he makes the grade eventually. I haven't written him off but I feel recalling him in a panic to solve our goal scoring problem would be ****ting on the lad from the greatest hight yet. Would be the last straw to be back on the bench here if I were him.

Bruce and MoN both contributed to Wickham's career massively stalling.

Keeping him on the bench and bringing him on in the dying minutes when we need a goal would have done no good for him.

Finally a manager has seen sense and has loaned him out so he can start games regularly, he'll stay at Sheff Wed for the rest of the season and thank goodness for that
