Connor Wickham remains in Liverpoolâs sights Friday June 10,2011 By Paul Joyce Have your say(0) ENGLAND Under-21 starlet Connor Wickham remains in Liverpoolâs sights even though Sunderland tried to spark interest last night. Sunderland boss Steve Bruce asked about Ipswich striker Wickham, with a fee of £9million plus additional payments mooted, in a bid to out-manoeuvre Liverpool. So the onus is now on Anfield to increase an offer of about £7m . Director of football, Damien Comolli, was considering his next move last night. Wickham, understood to favour Merseyside, is in Denmark with Stuart Pearceâs U21s and has become the latest member of that squad to be targeted for a big-money move following Manchester Unitedâs £16.5m swoop for Phil Jones and Liverpoolâs signing of Jordan Henderson. Bruce has already made a £12m triple bid for United fringe players John OâShea, Darron Gibson and Wes Brown. Whether Wickham will move to the Stadium of Light given Liverpoolâs long-standing interest remains to be seen. But Bruce is likely to be able to offer first-team football as Wickham, 18, would almost certainly be behind Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll in the Anfield pecking order. Be another dreadfull signing we if were to pay anything near those numbers. Fair enough if he was setting the championship alight and banged in 20+ goals last season but he didn't. Could be another John Stead. We need players who are ready not paying overboard for potential, we aren't Liverpool ya know.
Reports out today say Liverpool paid £16.000,000 for Hendo, on contract to us at £15,000 If we buy Whickham for,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,£9,000,000,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,how much are his wages going to be, more than fifteen grand. ok they both have add ons, so lets say that one evens itself out, four year contract,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,DO the maths, stitched up again. fortunately, he wont be coming here.
Yes but he only played half the season and was played out of position stuck out on the left wing. I hope that he stays with us because played in his proper position with a decent strike partner he will score those goals no problem. As it is he'll probably end up at Liverpool...
We could be in a good position to get him after sending loan players there way previously. Maybe we could take Wickham and send them Noble & Knott on loan. I wouldn't be surprised if they also owe us money from other Sunderland players they have signed.
Still think he will go to the pool, who can blame him, they will outbid us and out pay us, a no brainer realy.

I just don't understand why we would pay a huge fee for a 3rd choice striker when Jay Bothroyd who scored scored 18 (double Whickham) is free and DJ Campbell who got 13 in the prem is available for £1m. We can then use the funds to go and get a top quality proven striker to go straight into the first team
Parker mate, the crew at SOL, are in turmoil, they have shot themselves in the foot and dont know how to respond. Even Stevie Wonder can see whats gone wrong here, never the mind multy thousands of fans around the world
think theres potential with whickham, hes strong with good skill,no expierience and didnt score a lot of goals last season so its a gamble,my gut feeling is to sign him if we can
