i'd say noone, he offers something we didnt have at all last season which is trickery and skill in the final third, connelly completes a very mean back 5, rightly displacing mcnaughton who has only been playing for the past few months because he has no challenger - he has been poor for too long. aside from those 2 you have bellamy and helguson, two key players for us, and i havent even mentioned important players to come back in like mutch and smith. but aside from those i agree connelly has barely put a foot wrong, to me turner always has an error in him, for me we're lucky to have 3 such accomplished players who were competing for 2 places but now that connelly is right back they can all play.
Don't feel qualified to comment really as I've only followed City from 1963 when I was 13 yrs old but I'll have a stab in the dark and say Bellamy
Too early in the season to decide the most important signing. Apart from to few games to decide the likes of Kim, Velikonja, Mutch, etc, etc have have not played near enough the amount of games required for me to judge.
I don't think there is a most important signing. There are eleven players on the pitch, seven more on the bench and some more that don't get into the match day eighteen. This season there are so many of top quality for this division and by the end of May they will all have played important parts in what I hope and believe will be our promotion year.
My sentiments put succinctly. I agree that noone (brilliant today, superb) has been a real boon but there's something about Connolly (3goalsaswell) that makes me feel much more secure about our rearguard.
Lets be honest guys, it would be hard to choose. Today we might have more choice, Kim done well and our new #25 when he came on had me on the edge of my seat but overall #12 and #22 have made a massive impact plus Smith & Noone Don't forget Mutch & Maynard. I won't include CF39 because it's his 2nd season, all goes to show what a squad we have.
think what damage bellamy, noone and frei behind helguson could do, would be like the red arrows with interchanging, promotion here we come..............
Connolly reminds me of Roger Johnson a bit especially with his goal scoring prowess but the most important signing has to be noone this year and joey mason from last year (what a finish)
Good comparison with Rog, I think. Very similar physically. I'm a little sad for super kev but it's a dog-eat-dog business. I'm not sure he'll be with us for 13/14 season because... we're going up.
I honestly think that if Kev hadn't suffered a such a drop in form recently, Malky would have had a huge problem in dropping Connolly to the bench just to bring back Ben. Hudson has become a fixture and Connolly has hardly put a foot wrong as stand in CB. I still believe Turner is the better option alongside Huds, but maybe McNuggs poor form this season has unearthed a more than adequate alternative for that spot. Like others on here, I've been very worried about our lack of cover at wide back, both left and right. Taylor's pace has worried me in the past on the left but he's more than made up for it by using his brain and making himself available as an out for our midfield boys. I would still like a pacy left footed wing back in the squad as an alternative.
With what we have going forward let the opposition worry about us. Let's go with the attitude 'we will score more than you'.
DJ tried it with his first 11, but once Jay or Chops were absent we were down to Eddie the Eagle. Nice to think that Bellamy, Mutch and Smith have to fight their way back into this team.
