Today, one of the greatest spectacles a football fan can witness will happen in Cardiff today. A top rate, local rival derby, in the biggest league in the world! Yes Cardiff may have been bankrolled and bought their place in that league at the detriment to the clubs history. But they are there and that's all that will matter to them, and I am jealous of that. As for Swansea, what a star shining example of the way things should be done. The path all clubs should follow, or rather, should have followed. I personally don't think we will see another Swansea uprising in football for many years. With FFP, and the bigger the top leagues get, the harder it will be for clubs in the bottom two tiers of the game. I think both sets of fans should applaud one another at todays game. Despite having a vicious rivalry, I would love to think that despite all the hate, they can look across the stands at one another and celebrate the fact they have both finally reached something elite and something all fans would love. A Premier League derby. I don't see that ever happening in my lifetime with BCFC and BRFC, and despite being 28, I don't see BCFC ever getting even close to the stage we got to 60 minutes away from Premier League football, ever again. Something the board should be utterly ashamed of, as they are making history and breaking records at a rate almost as alarming as the years leading up to 1982. The 5 pillars bull s**t is one of the most ridiculous, childish, and almost humiliating things to keep hearing fully grown, supposedly professional footballing experts, to keep bringing up. It falls in the same category of a Primary School class doing a spider diagram, and they need to step down to save the club.
im with you. I'm 21 and I don't think ill ever see premiership football in Bristol. Ill congratulate Swansea but not Cardiff. One did it the right way the other did it by ripping the soul out of their club and getting in masses of debt. It's even hard to support Caulker nowadays!
Well said IBS Cant disagree with any of that However... as you are 28 you will not have experienced what us older supporters did in the 70s. The only message we can give you from those glory years, and the only crumb of comfort is that miracles can happen, do happen, and if we ever find another kingdom builder in our midst again, cherish him protect him indulge him ride the waves with him and most of all, never forget that we are not nor will ever be Manchester United. All we could ever hope for is to be Swansea City. Not a bad place to be, really though
They both make us look like a bunch of losers that haven't got a clue and that is exactly what we have become. Well done to them both for showing how it should be done.
We've had the investment opportunities but SL has blown some of his millions by employing people who weren't up to the job on and off the pitch Where we are now is the result of meddling by amateurs
Or 1982. Sketch is Cardiff placed their existence on the line TWICE. Nothing to lose wee about there. They would have flat lined and gone brown bread if it wasn't for a freakshow landing with multi millions, and asking to be rimmed by the Sheeple believing his "You love me long time or me no buy your arse and take money away ....!" Congratulations never..
Chap called Caulker, their captain scored the only goal. Wish we could get him on loan again. When I saw him play, I said that he was the best, young player that I had seen and that he would go on to play for England. At 18, he was organising our back 4 then. If only..
Think we would all agree with this, outstanding young talent, still learning his craft at the top level and will only get better. Very tough when you don't have world class players around you though like he had at Spurs... For all Millens faults, he had an eye for a young talent, and Wigleys connection with the u21's brought in a couple of gems in Rose and Caulker
It's a gamble that Cardiff took and it came off. On the way they lost some of their heritage and identity but they do at least have Premiership football. On the other side of the coin look at Portsmouth, who by rights shouldn't even be in existance, just like us after the near calamity of the early 80's. Who would you rather be ? None of these are examples of well run clubs. Then there are clubs like Blackburn who literally bought a Premier League title with Jack Walkers millions and who probably spent less in winning it than SL has in taking us to the brink of the 4th division.
