Congratulations on prizing Norwich City’s biggest asset away from them. <applause><applause><cheers>

I take my hat off to you guys; you sure have played a blinder. Lambert will get your lads flying, look at what he has got out of a team of ordinary League One players at Norwich two promotions and a 12th placed finish, just imagine what he can potentially achieve with a group players with genuine Premiership quality! You can appoint Lambert without even agreeing a compensation sum with Norwich now he has resigned knowing that the only possible come back is a £75,000 fine and a slap on the wrists. Genius! Watch now for a Villa resurgence and Norwich falling down the leagues faster than Bradford City. <ok>

I think 'prizing' describes it well (it should be 'prising') but although AVFC has not yet appointed Paul Lambert as Manager, once the appointment is made, we will certainly 'prize' his signature.
There is another bonus too. In addition to his sensibly successful managerial career to date, Paul Lambert's mentor is Martin O'Neill, whose own mentor was Brian Clough.
That lineage is true pedigree, so I expect much better times ahead for AVFC. We just need that prize signature !

He's done a great job for us but I think the drawback for Villa is his ambition. If he is successful for you a top 6 club will come calling,if he isn't well then that's worse isn't it?

Paul Lambert has signed a 3 year contract. He has not come to AVFC as a stop-gap, his intention is to get AVFC back to the levels (or better) that were acheived under MON. That was Top 6, so if he succeeds then he will be at a Top 6 Club, so why move ?

Larry, I am not going to say PL will do a good job at Villa or not as the plain truth is I do not know. What I can perhaps be a little more certain about is the fact that PL tends to rotate the squad, formation and tactics for just about every game. This may or may not work for Villa and it may well not work for some of the Villa players, only time will tell.

While I do not especially want to see PL fail, I will wait with interest to see how well he does for you but my sneaky feeling is that he will not take you back to where you were under MON but you might threaten the top half of the league. On that basis, he will be gone in 3 years to move on to bigger things.

Aston Villa and Randy Lerner talk the talk but dont have the money to compete with the big clubs in England.

I think small club in Birmingham is how the song goes.

Three points.

1} Most EPL Clubs are operating at a financial disadvantage compared to Man City & Chelsea (financial doping from mega-rich owners) and Man United (huge turnover earned from onfield success).

2} In view of that, I think AVFC should aim to get back to the levels Tottenham have acheived; I always use Spurs as the 'comparison club' when judging AVFC. Getting higher than that is currently blocked, due to {1} above.

3} There is a 'small club' in Birmingham, Birmingham City and I am wondering, like you with Ipswich, will we ever play them (in the League) again ?
