It was a hat-trick as well, from Liverpool's Rhian Brewster.

At least the youngsters are doing well before they get ignored by their clubs, lose vital time to develop and ultimately never get called up to the senior side.

I wouldn't be so sure about that, despite playing for the England U17's, Brewster's already been moved up to the Liverpool U23's and regularly trains with the first team. Also, according to Guardiola, Phil Foden is one of the most exciting players he's ever seen and he wants him in the first team as early as the youth coach thinks he can cope.

Was reading about this game in one of the morning papers. They had over a million applications for tickets for the game.

Also, this isn't a typical performance for an England U17 team. We've never got past the QFs before.

(The 2011 team that lost 3-2 to the Germans in the quarters included future internationals Sterling and Redmond, plus full squad selections Pickford and Chalobah, and some bloke called Powell who went on to play on an even greater stage.)

Is this the same Young England team that beat Germany 8-3?

I've watched all these games and I believe we have some real quality players coming though. Not just traditional English strengths coming through. On top of this our players are matching the best in skills and game management. Make sure you watch the final.

It really is encouraging how well the younger England teams are doing, seems this St Georges Park is starting to show it worth, it will be interesting to see if in 5 years the senior team is also seeing an improvement.

Apparently it's written into Brewster's contract that if an offer comes in of £30 million, Liverpool have to accept it and then they have to spend it all within the next 30 days.
