After a weeks of ****ting it, thank **** thats finally over. We lost, and cue the bragging and goading, we canât complain they won the game. It was tighter than I thought it would be. We just didnât have the composure to put the ball in the net, despite periods of sustained pressure. Too scared to go and win the game, we put out a team that was middle of the road, and if it were not for an amazing stroke of luck, we could have been a man and a goal down before half time. Again a lack of tactical ability from the manager meant we played in the same style all game, and didnât change it when we went a goal down. Newcastle, much as we expected from the mags, they were solid and well organised without offering too much in attack. Set plays were the only way they really offered a goal threat, and at this level a lack of goals will put you in the bottom third of the league. I think we showed enough of an attacking threat that we will do ok, nothing spectacular, but enough to finish decently placed a few places either way of tenth. Taking nothing away from them they scored we didnât, so they got the 3 points and the bragging rights for a second successive season. Well done fellas, enjoy your day (or however long youâll milk it for) but I think itâll be a long season for you.
Coudnt agree more. I think some of our fans grossly underestimated Newcastle, and overestimated us. We still havent replaced Bent, and IMO, that doesnt make us any better than we were last year. Both goals we have conceded this season have been set pieces. We still play players totally out of position too which is starting to piss me off. But like you say, its finally over. Sure I feel like ****, but at least Im not ****ting myself with nerves any more.
If we weren't playing the mags, and we'd got beat 1-0 then the fans would be saying we were unlucky not to get 2 or 3, but these things happen, and we'd then look forward to he next game. Since we were unfortunate to be playing our nearest and dearest passions are running high, things are being blown up bigger than they need to be, but despite the defeat things aren't as bad as they could be. We have a decent squad of players if only we learn how to use them effectively, then as I've said we will do well.
Got to admit looking at the two teams and the fact that we that we were at home. I couldn't see us getting beat. We just don't seem to turn up against them lot year after year but fair play to them. No doubt the calls for Bruce's head will start which is obviously far to premature after two games. We do however need to improve on today. And quick.
Totally agree mate, thought as the mags would struggle for goals and as they very good defensively, and I thought we'd be so focused on the win that we'd nick a goal. Didn't happen, We all knew how the mags would be set up, but the guy whose paid to be tactically aware and whose job it is to set us up for a win, didn't do that. As a fan I'm gutted but I'm not angry just disappointed we haven't yet learn't from past mistakes. Far too soon to be doing anything rash with regards to the manager, but he really quickly has to learn how to go for a win especially at home.
Good to see a few fans finally realize we have a decent team that is capable of coping with your team full of "elite has beens". You all suffer of a severe case of over confidence.
I was always a miserable bastard. This is Sunderland vs Newcastle we are talking about, we NEVER do anything convincing against yous, so why should we suddenly now?
and you sir, don't remember seeing you too much lately, too **** scared of a defeat to show your face? congratulations on the win, didn't think you'd win but you managed to nick it. Honestly how do you think you'll do this season, do you think this win papers over the cracks in your team? Or do you feel as quite a few of your fellow supporters feel that it'll be a struggle?
Face facts 2nd half was ****e.. Was Colback actually playing, Gyan the striker with Sess in the hole?
"You all suffer of a severe case of over confidence." It's not over confidence when most of the Football world agree we have a far better squad. Why we can't play against your lot is baffling me and Bruce too, it would appear.
Of course I was scared , was ****ting bricks before the game. I wasn't as stupid as some of the mackems who were so sure of victory , telling us it would be a miserable and cold day. Or posting a thread on our board telling us to prepare for defeat... I thought you had learnt your lessons from last season but evidently not... I don't think we'll struggle , we've got a team that is capable of finishing in the top 10 and if we get another striker and left back that should be more than just possible. Defensively we look rock solid and that's two clean sheets in two games. Happy days
Aye, it would only be Sunderland to have Newcastle as their bogey team, even if had half of the Barcelona team turn out for us, we'd still get beat. I'm ****ed if I know why.
Indeed. As much as I'm happy with the win, I think this might convince Fat Boy that he doesn't need to spend any more money to ensure survival in the PL.
To be honest I didn't think you were going to get anyone in anyway, in fact I thought he'd try and get a few more quid into his back pocket while the window was still open.
Happy days? top 10? Mate, think that's a bit premature you've offered very little offensively and thats going to be your biggest problem this season. Don't forget the Ashley factor at your place, he'll still surprise you I think.
Funnily enough, the same could be said for us. Although I can still see Bruce sticking Colback at left back, Seb left wing, and maybe throwing Wesley up front after some of his Messi-esque abilty he showed us all today.
Who will Ashley bring in? Just going on his previous form and his unwillingness to part with much cash.
Well we're in talks with Maiga from Sochaux and Cissokho from Lyon. Both players currently play in France so sounds about right...
