The first sentence of this article tells a story,' BRISTOL City chairman Colin Sexstone is hoping new manager Derek McInnes can succeed where his predecessor failed and persuade star striker Nicky Maynard to sign a new contract'. A few lines later he say's," His refusal to sign, despite constant prompting from former boss Keith Millen". Another few lines and he states," Having tried and failed to persuade the former Crewe Alexandra striker to agree terms, City's board of directors are now hoping McInnes, who succeeded Millen last month, can help change Maynard's mind. The last paragraph of the article he drags Steve Lansdown in,' Sexstone and chief investor Steve Lansdown are sure to discuss the matter with McInnes'. It just makes me wonder why our chairman, who did a brilliant job recruiting Delboy, seems to in the space of one article... * Put the onus on Delboy.. * Implicate and blame Millen.. * Admit the boards inability to finalize the Maynard situation * Brings Lansdown into deal with Delboy and Maynard over the contract issue.. He,blames Millen, hands the problem onto Delboy, admits the boards weakness and brings in Lansdown to resolve the situation. We all know there is an ongoing problem with Nicky M and his contract but just who is in charge, and who is to blame for this situation which has been a running sore since the summer.. http://www.thisisbristol.co.uk/Bris...tor-persuade/story-13828616-detail/story.html
It will ultimately end up as £6m down the swanee and we did have an adequate replacement on board, for all the grief we gave the Festa fans about why would he want to join them, I still would have snapped their arms off at the socket for £6m.
Of course we all want him to sign, and perhaps in a wierd way his current goal drought makes it slightly more likely. However, the Bosman ruling means he can walk on a free in the summer and write his own paycheque. He would be mad to sign for us now.
I've just read the article properly wiz and to me it looks like you've made the schoolboy error of attributing quotes to Colin Sextone which are the 'reporters' words. In fact the tone of your article is worse than what The Evening Post regularly produces in my opinion.
Natch, fair point, that's why I supplied a copy of the E/P article at the end of my article so people could read it,compare and make their own judgement. To me it's obvious that Sextone is,historically an operator for good or bad, the whole Maynard saga has not been handled correctly,an oversized playing staff, contracts wrongly handed out,Walshy just summoned and sacked without any respect and a host of other things he must have been at least connected with Coppell,David James,no real success at quality summer signings,ect,ect.. The wording may be a reporters but he had to have been fed the information from Sexstone.
The saga of Nicky Maynard will hopefully end sometime in the next few months and regrettably I don't think we will come out of it with any glory. Is it possible that DM can change Nicky's mind about staying at Ashton Gate, or will NM just disappear into that great "I want to play in the premiership and sit on the bench" netherworld? Is there anyone at BCFC who has the savvy to work out a deal where Nicky is offered the option of a move away, providing he agrees to a new contract with specific get out clauses to offer him his dream? In retrospect I think we should have let him go before the season to the highest bidder and just moved on. However I must confess I have probably missed a major point in my writings in that I really have no idea about the intracacies of the bosman rules. Perhaps someone can explain the finer details of this ruling to me, but I have a feeling that the sole beneficiary is the player. Does anyone think that the previous managerial ineptitude was a contributing factor in Nicky's decision to turn down a new contract and is there a new light with DM at the helm?
Merci beaucoup wize! Essentially it's what north americans call free agency where you can move anywhere when your existing contract expires without compensation to your current employer. Is that correct? I can understand, to a degree, why that is important but it seems that any kind of contract in today's world is not worth the paper it's written on anyway. Am I being cynical when I say that it appears that the rights of the employer who pay these guys ridiculous salaries, basically have no way of recouping any of their investment in that player when they decide to leave? Whatever happened to loyalty? The EU has a lot to answer for, especially the imposition of unpopular and unworkable laws for member countries. Sorry it's something that has bugged me for years when I see my homeland giving away it's heritage to a bunch of euro-nobodies. RANT OVER!
