I know I said I was a tad tired of Sparky's exploits or lack of them recently, I just couldn't resist this one. QPR statement: 'Hughes has built a reputation as one of Britainâs most admired managers'! mmmm!
I'm getting fed up of it too, but just one last dig; Look at your 'ambition' now Sparky, you arrogant prick. Have fun battling relegation.
I have to say that the "most admired manager" statement was asking for trouble. By any definition I can't see any set of fans including him in a list of managers they most admire. Nor is he one of the most ambitious managers either as it turns out....
LOL, I wish that was me Craving. Sadly I'm not that cool, and I do look a lot older, older than I actually am (25).
I think it's more than that. When we appointed Hughes, our board was mobbed with Arsenal fans decrying him, Man City fans who were split between 'he doesn't have a clue' and 'he was all right and deserved more time' and Blackburn fans who were unanimous in their support of him. Even if Blackburn had a popular and successful manager, they would still remember Hughes well. He was their for five years or so and steadily improved the team year on year until he had got them pretty much to the limit of what was achievable with their resources. It's not a perfect analogy, but to some extent he is to them what Roy is to us. Anyway, I'm not sure why I'm still talking about him. Possibly because I'm too fond of airing my own opinions!
Good dental plan, the bloke on the left went in to his dentist and said 'Can I have teeth like Brazils Ronaldo'. Not that I care but Think Hughes has to look at the spine of his team, which to me aren't good enough to build a team round. Kenny, Ferdinand, Barton, Boothroyd ? Wouldn't have any of them at Fulham in exchange for who we have.
Out of those I think I'd rate Barton and possibly Kenny as PL quality (wouldn't have either in our team). So Hughes has his work cut out.
Looking back at things, Hughes is actually an incredibly over-rated manager who has accomplished little. The Wales job is the one people always harp on about when referring to his quality, but he had the likes of Speed, Savage, Davies, Giggs, Bellamy and countless other Premier League quality players all playing in their prime and still failed to reach a major tournament. What I will say about him is that he does have a great eye for transfers. Obviously a lot of them went down the pan at City for whatever reasons (Robinho, RSC, Bridge) but looking at the players he brought to Blackburn (Samba, RSC, McCarthy, Nelsen, Bentley) and even Fulham (Sidwell, Dembele) you can see he has a good eye, whether this is down to his scouting team I don't know.
