Just went over to an Everton forum to read a bit about it. Obviously as it’s a youth team player not too much info as lots wouldn’t have seen him play much (apparently has played in the first team in a brief cameo role) The ones who do seem to know a bit reckon he was one of their best prospects, but was kicking up a fuss about not being near enough the first team. Seem to think that is why he has chosen to come here as more likely to play. They seem sceptical that the real big hitters would’ve been interested in him though. Also think he isn’t great defensively and see him more as a winger in the future. “Livramento and Small will make one of the better full back pairings in the Championship next season” was a comment I enjoyed
I'm certainly not ready to give up on him. I just think he will have more impact coming on as a sub for 25-30 min at the end, when the opposition full backs are getting leggy. First half, when they are just as fresh, I feel most Premier League full backs deal with him. He seems more interested in bamboozling the man in front of him with stepovers, than actually looking for the runners coming into the box. Therefore you just have to jockey him. Harder to jockey though when you are fatigued and heavy-footed after 70-80 mins of football.
Happy with that. What point is there having wingers, if full backs these days have all the same tricks and confidence anyway?
On Sunday he set up our first scoring chance by passing infield to Adam Armstrong. Then he was in the passing sequence Stephens-Djenepo-Armstrong-Adams for the goal. In the second half he passed a beautiful ball down the line to the flying Perraud who crossed, from which Livramento shot over the bar. Pass, chance. Pass, goal. Pass, chance. I agree it would be good if he did it more, but it’s incorrect to imply he rarely does it.
Another really exciting talent who we've beaten a number of clubs to his signature. Is he eligible to play tomorrow I wonder?
I don't think a team like us can afford to have a player like KWP on the bench. Given his start, we also can't drop Livramento. So playing them both and dropping someone like Walcott (who's not setting the world alight) would make sense to me. But then again I've never seen Livramento play further forward and he's only actually had two good games for Saints, albeit he's only had two games for Saints. Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself.
"A product of the Everton academy, Small is considered one of the most promising young full-backs in the country, while he has also spent time operating as a central defender and left winger."
