Sad to see him go as he was a West Ham fan, but he wasn't going to be a first XI unless there were a few injuries. One of those transfers that everyone is happy about. You get a player you want for a reasonable price, we double our money, he gets first team football and there's a gap for a youth player. Happy days.
Great news and nice to see in that video a great team spirit. That’s been the most impressive thing about Martin imo Sounds like the football won’t change, but I can see how it would be an enjoyable style from a players perspective, Russ ball is a bit like freestyle Jazz.
He has what all the top managers must have, great man management and people skills. Cloughie, Sir Alex and our own Lawrie Mac had it, in fact Lawrie was never a great tactician, he just let the players just play and sort it out for themselves, his talent was to get great players with the right character to play for little Southampton and get the best out of them.
I work with a couple of Hammers and they said virtually the same thing as you. Sad to see him go but recognised that it was a good move for all parties. I'm very pleased obviously, and I hope he stays with us for a few years at least
As much as I agree, I have a feeling that in hindsight it will look like a bad deal for you. I really think he has what it takes to make a big impact in the PL. He has been immense all season and I think he can step up even further. Guess we will find out soon enough. I hope we can bring in a few more players of similar quality.
He is a vital cog in the Martin machine and a difference maker. We were vastly better with him in the side than without.
Yeah. He has everything. Fantastic touch & weight of pass, strong in the tackle, great positioning. Reminds me a lot of Morgan Schneiderlin in his prime.
Like everyone else, I'm very happy with this signing, I just wish he had a stronger stomach! It might not happen, but the prospect of him play alongside Alcaraz is quite exciting!
Great attitude, excellent player, and he really wants to be here. Plus he is devoid of earrings, tattoos and stupid hair dos. Just what we need!
