I might be wrong, but because the new signings contracts probably won’t commence until July, then you wouldn’t show any new signings amortisation until next years accounts, even if the signings are announced in June.
Good to hopefully get it done pretty early in the window so it wasn’t dragging on. Still need another midfielder to come in and obviously some attackers
It very much seems like we are intentionally working from the back of the pitch upwards. Not sure why. Maybe that is because those are the most expensive players and we want to try and know exactly how much we can spend. And / or needing the time to recoup more funds from sales to help with this?
Great news. If this pans out (I won't be celebrating until it is over the line) it is the perfect pick me up to last night (well for all of us except @AberdeenSaint as the perfect pick me up was the result last night to him )
I don’t think it means there will definitely be no more recruitment in those areas. But they won’t be priority. For example a loan goalkeeper late in the window (as loans often are). We’ve got someone secured for now at least. Or another central defender only if Bednarek leaves due to his contract situation - although I’m not sure he’s someone we can really raise serious funds from so unless he pushes for a way out I’m not sure we will sell
The Athletic: Southampton have agreed a deal worth up to £18million with West Ham United for midfielder Flynn Downes. The Athletic reported Southampton were in discussions with West Ham over a deal for Downes. Full-back Kyle Walker-Peters had been in line to move in the opposite direction, but the deal for Downes is a straight fee and Walker-Peters is not involved. The Southampton defender remains a player under consideration for West Ham this summer.
“Under consideration” - wild really. Perhaps due to the fee we might have quoted. Seems like a no brainer if he truly wants to leave West Ham fans seemed to think it would be a bad deal for them if under 20m. Feels like 15m maybe should have been top end but given how critical he was last year and how we want him in sooner rather than later the extra hopefully isn’t a big deal. I think we might have made at least 3m on the CB trading as well.
Personally I’d really would like KWP to wear our shirt but given his loyalty and so consistent form for us, if there is an advantage to him, would not begrudge his moving.
I know they’ve got a new manager, blah, blah, blah…. But just can’t understand the desire for anyone to go there in a hurry… never seen a club more in need of an identity and desperate to reconnect with their own fans…. Very odd…
Great news, really key for the team. Feels like we’re a couple of players away from having a team who will stand a chance of staying up.
The transfer process reflects Martin's playing style. We fanny around between goalkeeper and defenders, backwards and forwards without any real progress being made. This goes on for sometime and a midfielder is occasionally involved but it's all at a snails pace. Just when we finally get to an advanced position and a forward is linked, it goes all the way back to the keeper.
