They seem genuinely disappointed to lose him on their forum.

Yeah I read that. Think he'll be a solid addition.

    Always a good barometer.

I know absolutely nothing about him, but in my new season of positivity I am buzzing about this one.

A competent English Premier League left back?

    Someone should have told Gareth.

Seriously I reckon he's going to be a HUGE upgrade in quality from Manning.

Solid if unspectacular signing, nothing wrong with that. He’s definitely better than Manning and should be a safe bet for a season or two if our aim is to just survive

I'm cool with this. Some people moaning it's not particularly ambitious, but I prefer this to spending £8m on getting a Juan Larios out of Man City with zero PL experience - especially given his injury record since.

Taylor has 140 PL apps to his name and is signing just a two-year deal. Makes sense for a promoted side.

I should imagine RM will rotate. Having Taylor here could well benefit Manning too with his experience.

Hopefully Charlie can teach Manning how to defend.

Whenever I see this i always remember when we had a guy that used to come into the Karaoke bar I worked in and we gave them 'pet names'. He was called 'A very handsome man Steve' (as he loved himself). Then one night drunk we tried to see how we could make his name longer with other names/objects. The drunken stupor created:

A very handsome man Steve Austin Princess Stephanie Laurence Olivier Newton John Travolta.

Lol loses a lot in translation, but makes me chuckle 35 years later.

If he's coming in as a back-up LB, I think it's a pretty smart and shrewd move.

But if the intention is for him to be first choice LB (which I presume it is), then I'd be very underwhelmed.

Less underwhelmed than I would be at the prospect of a whole year of Manning being the lead man, though (although I know that's not your point as such!)

TBH, a lot depends on whether the saved funds from signing him on a free are spent on another position in the squad. If this enables us to invest, say, an extra 10mill on a striker on top of what we had already budgeted then I'll be happy.

Kinda with you here. With have a lot of holes to plug and some may be horses for courses. The interesting one for me is what we do up top. Currently we don't have enough, and I hope that is where we are focusing our marginal resources

Don’t forget, we also need to bring through Meghoma and we have Larios potentially returning. I think he is about the right level left back for now.
