    Right back or centre back. That’s perfect as it adds cover for Tino as well. Reports from those watching him regularly and those close to the Bundesliga sound very positive. Can’t be too mad at that.

    The Athletic now running the story:

    - Fee agreed for Armel Bella-Kotchap of around 10m
    - Completed his medical yesterday
    - Personal terms all agreed
    - Will be signing a four-year deal with a club option to add an extra year
    - Other PL clubs (and bigger Bundesliga teams) were very interested in him but Saints swooped quietly

    Makes me think they're still in for Richards as they're two completely different players. Ketchup could be cover for Salisu and Richards/Bedders would be the on-ball, composed one.

    Expect we will need to shift one or two CBs before we sign another. Richards would be the sixth. Plus there's Simeu coming through.

    Isn’t the point of the new owners that we don’t need to wait for the money to come in before signing. So we can make this signing whereas last summer we would have had to wait and seemingly lost out

    Granted we’d need to be confident that there was sufficient interest to eventually move them on. So again, last summer it was clear Ings and Vestergaard were moving but we still couldn’t move early for Broja and a defender (such as one of the two who went to palace)

    Having to sell Matt Targett (and try to get away with a 30yo+ Bertrand with no real cover) to buy Che Adams was particularly emblematic of the Gao years.
