Bit of advice as my laptop has given up on me.
Looking to buy a new one for the wife which will be used for browsing, music and emails etc. simple stuff as we are both simple :emoticon-0128-hi:
I have been browsing but there is so much choice i don't know which one to go for.
Any advice on what to get for about £300 will helpful, i can then make a short list and pick one.
    Cheers

I always swear by Acer, had a few now and never had any issues other than a smashed screen which was my fault anyway, not many laptops will withstand a drunken idiot treading on them whilst trying to show off their dancing prowess.

Seriously though mate, i've never had any issues with them and they are mid range price bracket as well.

For what you're saying you need it for you don't need to spend anywhere near that amount of money. They'll be very few preowned laptops out there which won't cater for that. Mine is well old on specs, can do all that. Get from place that does guarantees and and you'll be laughing for under a ton.

I've got this with a 1gb of extra ram. (which will cost about a fiver)

Does the job. 70 quid. You may need a bigger hard drive unless you're just streaming the music. I keep all my music files on a couple of massive external hard drives.

Edit. Mine is big and heavy cause it's old and wanted a bigger screen for the footy streaming, but you'll still get something light weight well cheep.

Go to a local laptop repair place and they usually have a ton of them, you should get an i3 processor with 4gb ram and 500g hard drive for £110 no bother.

That's the sort of spec you're gonna get for £350, in PC world.

Ask him/her if they're happy to give you warranty with the sale, that's all I'd add.

Keyboards are usually replaced as well as the HDD, with a refurb and a full clean so you're not gonna have to worry about inheriting a scruffy old tramp's (like the guy in my avatar) old laptop.

If you're insisting on new, then go with Lenovo, I got one for my wife about 4 years ago and it's never skipped a beat.

Got mine from a laptop repair shop about 4 years ago, cheap as chips, free years warranty, not that I needed it. It's ran sweet as a nut. Could do with a reformat now like. When I'm ready for another i'll be going back to them.

The guy I go to said he'd build me a gaming PC for £600 that'd cost me about £2k in the shops, I obviously declined because I'm not a homosexual with a fear of the outdoors but still, it shows the margins the shops are putting on, I know they have overheads but it's still ridiculous.

You can build it yourself for even less. PC parts are cheap as ****. I'm going to build one for my TV once I get some spare cash and use it as console/streaming device. Windows operating systems and Pentium processors still wipe the floor with android technology for streaming. You can just do more with it. Access more variety of shows and way less complicated.

Yeah, mainstream shops are ripping people off with the mark up. Crumble is looking at one there from John Lewis, even if I was a millionaire I wouldn't go to place like that for my tech.

Me and my mate had a camcorder when we were in the forces, we split the cost £150 each, it was the best purchase ever.

We'd use it for recording birds that we'd fetched back after nights out, some right dirty slags.

I had to back mine up onto PC, and it turns out that the PC is still at my mums in the attic... I'm obviously having a look at that next time I'm at hers <laugh>

Personally i always go with Samsung, but hey ho most people get brand loyal if they haven't had any issues with that brand.

If its only basic stuff your doing then you dont need something too powerful, probably something with an I5, or I3 core (the higher the number, the more powerful the processor which means its runs faster)

Honestly there are a lot of good brands, have had Acers in the past which were decent, just bear in mind whatever you purchase will slowly get slower as the years go by, the more you have on your hard drive all takes an effect on the overall speed of the laptop.

Wife won't go for a pre owned one though o have to be new.
Shame though coz there are plenty used one's that will do what she wants, all of music is on an external storage device as well.

Since we are on about laptops, have I missed a trick on another thread overnight as Bri, Tel and Vince have all got an identical avatar on here, or is somebody dabbling?

    PS: Add SAFC83 now.
