A man who scalded himself with a cup of tea in a pub car park has hit out at Wetherspoons for refusing to accept liability. The lid fell off Ian Roth’s takeaway cup as he was getting into his car, spilling the tea on him. He said that he had to take two days off work to visit the doctor but when he complained he was told the chain was not liable for incidents outside the pub. Ian, 33, from Stockport, Greater Manchester, said: ‘How can they say that they’re not liable when I bought the tea from them, and I was still in their car park when it happened? It’s unbelievable. ‘I was really badly injured by a cup of tea made by the staff at Wetherspoons. When I went to complain, they were extremely unhelpful

‘We got to the car less than one minute from receiving the tea and as I leaned down to get in the plastic lid lifted very suddenly off the top of my tea and some spilt on to my stomach and t-shirt. The shock of the tea hitting me meant my senses were scrambled and more of the tea fell towards me. ‘I immediately removed my t-shirt and it was clear the hot tea, despite not being against me long, had caused damage. My stomach felt like it was on fire."

Let me get this straight. If I go into Wetherspoons, order a cup of tea and it 'accidentally' spills the contents on me I could get compensation?

The only drawback I can see is that I would have to go into a Wetherspoons and, frankly, I'd rather stuff my cock in a Kenwood blender.
