Just noticed the quotes from Malky on our Beeb homepage. "We obviously had plenty of chances, but on another day we take them." "On another day Heidar (Helguson) could have scored five. We had 20 attempts on goal, did everything but score and weren't clinical. That wasn't good enough." Honest to God, if I hear that bloody "on another day" phrase from him again, I'll really go apeshit. FFS Malk, you've trotted out that out enough times this season mate - do something about it. Rudy/Mason/Velikonja, even sticking Gunnar in the hole - it's not that you haven't got options despite Maynard's absence. Unless he bloods a different combo upfront from what we've got, we've simply got to get another goal grabber in the New Year. Those 4 goals at Blackburn last week could psychologically have been the worst thing that could have happened. Complacency could kill us.
I think we need 2 new defenders and an out and out striker in the January transfer window, we need somebody to replace Maynard. If we get promoted, almost any team in the Prem will rip us to shreds. I do not understand why Malky is not using Velikonja up front.
Maybe he should have said something like, "We role up our sleeves and we go again." Honestly! People in these parts.
Perhaps it's just me Bobby. The point is we wont be playing Peterborough at the CCS again this season "on another day" or any other time - it's gone, and the 3 points with it. He's trotted out exactly the same phrase several times this season after games we've either lost or scraped a win when we should have either taken the points we dropped or banged in a hatfull when we've won. We've scored plenty of goals from midfield and by defenders - that's what's kept us up there - but there is a blatent lack of potency amongst the front runners in the system that Malky is playing. Heidar has started every Championship game (I think) this season and has done a great job doing his thing, particularly in the air, but he's woeful with his feet. I've lost count of the number of clear chances, not even half chances, that's he's failed to bury. Leaving it as it is waiting for "on another day" is not a clever option for the second half of the season.
Don't get down fella, it's the result many of us expected. I'm sure if all of us are good girls and boys this week Santa will deliver a recognised Prem standard targetman and a pacy right back soon. Many might even get their wish and see Uncle Malky drop The Don to the back of the midfield queue of far more capable replacements. Tommy's return will be heralded by heavenly trumpets. We are roughly at the same point in the season when Peterborough shamed us into that draw at London Rd a few years back. Are we about to start bottling again? Who knows, but I think we are far stronger mentally as a squad this time around. I would be gob smacked if we dont buy in January. Have to admit having reread your comment, it does look like a rerun of the Kenny Miller spell.
Bellars one side, Noone the other, oh to have someone like the Jay of old who was surprisingly fast for a big man, please please Santa send us someone
Not that far down Bobby - long way to go before I start getting depressed. Just bloody annoyed (again). As good as we're doing, we could be better. Very few things in life are not improvable, and that includes our team. We are just the odd player away from being certainties. What would also help is a better use of what we HAVE got as a squad. Keeping faith in a winning team after the Blackburn win was a big mistake. The only change made, a forced one at that, was the inclusion McNuggs and was a disaster. The Don should have sat it out in favour of Gunnar or Mutch. Too late when they did come on, the game was set up for Peterborough and they killed us with that second goal beofre any changes were made. Minxy - to be honest, I half expected an upset yesterday and it happened. No complaints about your side, only our own.
The saddest thing yesterday was the fact that Super Kev was so far off the pace, he's been a great servant for the Bluebirds but I think his time has gone.
Minxy, I said that this could have been a banana skin for the Bluebirds, every time we get a big crowd we don't perform. Posh were quicker to the breakdown than us, won far too many second balls. Well deserved their victory.
I thought Kiss was bad when coincidentally, he came on when McNuggs got injured in the Hull game, but Kev was Blue Square quality yesterday (and that's doing Blue Square a disservice). He looked completely out of it and if he plays again this season, it'll be too soon. Hudson back with Turner, Connolly on the right and Tayls on the left is a solid back 4. Having Lappin to cover on the left and Nugent in the middle should see us OK, but forget Kev on that showing, leave Connolly there. If Connolly gets injured or has to cover at CB again, put Gunnar on from the start. It's been frequently said on here that we need a couple of wing backs as well as an alternative goal grabber to cover for Maynard's absence. With Lappin only on loan till the New Year, yesterday proved that without a doubt
When Hudson doesn't play the defence is always a shambles. Who'd have thought the player nicknamed "donkey" when he first arrived has turned out to be such a key player. McNaughton has been poor for the last 3 seasons but fair play Posh deserved their win; in fact we were lucky to get away with such a narrow defeat.
Yes, Posh played bloody well and were it not for Marshall and a little poor finishing they could have had 4 or 5. However, their tactics swamped us in midfield so they by passed us at will giving them time and space to pick out Gayle and Tomlin who ran our back 4 ragged. Maybe Malky should have changed his tactics to deal with this and gone man to man in midfield? Despite all this we had enough chances to have 4 or 5 goals of our own. And as for that total knob of a ref!!! I haven't seen any replays. Why was HH's header disallowed and why was THAT freekick given? As far as I could see both players went for a loose ball, we won it and they didn't. Am I wrong? What a cracking free kick though!!! Then the idiot ref books one of ours for a gentle tap in midfield and, okay, he booked 3 or 4 of their for fouls on Conway and Noone but having booked them what about taking action for repeat offences? Despite all that, hats off to Boro and Ferguson. He did his homework well and set up a very skillful side who deserved the win on the day.
Hh goal was given off side. I haven't watched a replay but his foot was very high when he conceded that fk. Hudson is apparently our most important player. Defence was a ****ing shambles. Kev is gone and can't be involved playing like that. Posh deserved their win but if hh could finish we should have made them score at least 3 to get anything from the game. If we had to lose a home game I'd rather it was posh than palace. Let's try and win another 10 in a row and buy a right back in jan.
