Often a mish-mash of different styles that don't work as one collection but some are so good, you'll listen to them over and over. This for example: http://www.discogs.com/Various-Let-Them-Eat-Jellybeans/release/1426089 please log in to view this image Released to raise awareness of American punk in the UK/Europe as the Dead Kennedys noticed that we Brits had never heard of the yank bands. Side A is hardcore punk, side B is alternative rock. Contains some great songs including, imo, the best version of Black Flag's Police Story which is only available on this album: Whole album here:
Ive got a cracking - and obviously rare - Capricorn Records compilation that is nowhere to be found on You Tube ( which clearly must have an anti-southern, yankee agenda ) anyway, heres my second best shot... Aw ****, its not there either .. it was an album called " This is Northern Soul " ... here`s the next best and closest thing I could find. number three, and one that I could actually find " essential rockabilly - the capitol story -
This I picked up in the Notting Hill Record and Tape Exchange bargain basement for I think 10p, maybe as much as 50p. http://www.discogs.com/Various-Eternity-Project-One/release/861807 please log in to view this image It's an acid house compilation featuring various artists but most/all with some input by future members of The Orb and KLF. It has a laid back, chilled out, balearic style. The furst CD I ever bought was a compilation blues album . It featured John lee Hooker etc etc . I still have it somewhere . I have a couple of Northern soul compilation albums but that is it . What number is Now that's what I call a rip off at now ? Must be in the hundreds.
Oh oh oh . I did have a couple of Punk and disorderly albums on vinyl . I should also still have them in a box somewhere .
I've got loads of Northern soul ones. Never tire of them I also, to my eternal shame, own a copy of the original Now that's what i Call music. I suspect not even the defence that i was 13 at the time will ever entirely help my case
