..... is getting 'out of hand' if you'll pardon the pun. Forest & Derby supporters are now planning a 'clap for Clough' to add to various other claps for players, supporters, etc. If things carry on like this we'll need a 'song-sheet' to inform us of times throughout matches when we shout be silent or clap. Not being cynical, for the sake of it, but people are travelling many miles and spending lots of money to enjoy watching their team. Some don't want to be jeered, by opposition supporters, because they've failed to realise they should be clapping or silently looking at their shoes. The Villa supporters, last time here, were singing that we had 'no respect'.... ..... because we hadn't joined in with their clapping over summat or other I remember Clough, I gave to the Newcastle 2, I was sorry when that Bolton lad was poorly, upset at Bobby Robson and think it will be a shame when Paul Gascoigne eventually drinks himself to death. But I don't want to indulge in these public displays of grief, thanks all the same. I don't want to turn up at the SOL to put my arms around strangers and add to the pile of soggy scarves & teddy bears if someone dies. I cringe whenever I see a roadside shrine of service station flowers at every crash site. Whatever happened to private grief and dignity ..... when did public weeping & wailing become an Olympic sport? Is a 'clap for Clough' respectful or just the chance to bask in some reflected glory for 2 'has been' clubs?
Howay Smug, Gazza will live till he's 90.....you're going to have to put up with his pathetic antics for years yet <grin> I'm with you on the clapping though.....I'm no happy clappy either.
Harsh imo. Wish we could look back at being 2 times Euro champions rather than an FA cup win, 41 years ago.
My point is that this 'clapping' ****e is getting out of hand ......... not about the success of various clubs.
Totally agree, going to a match is all about eating stall food, getting pissed, talking ****e, maybe the odd slap here and there and yelling Ha'waaaaay the lads.. Take note Dorty, expect you tomorrow with a Sunderland shirt on and a beer in the hand..
I live in Notts and have to put up with their bullshit about them being a massive club ........ my bias showing there
On a positive note the fathers of the two who lost there lives on the malaysian flight will address the sol with gratitude tomorrow, prior to kick off
I think what he means is a bunch of 20-30 year olds who haven't a clue about Clough other than there dads word and organising stuff that suits them but expect it every game from all. What next, a Kevin Phillips clap when he pops his clogs, A stoke salute after 73 mins of a home game? I agree, it's getting quite pathetic..
OK mate, here's me putting my neck on the line. I don't think it's a positive at all, a message in the programme and on the scoreboard would've been enough imo. The Sunderland people have given and paid their respects ..... stringing it out ends where?
"Clapping getting out of hand" Sounds like a Daily Mail headline. 'Clapping will now be out of hand and will be performed by a foreign immigrant body part'.
I think they are going to give their personal thanks which for me is spot on. To many people now rely on ****ing computers, phones, electronic whatever but to hear it from the mouth is where I come from. It will be a one off btw, I don't think they will be turning up every home game to do it..
Certain clubs will now employ a band compete with a drummer, trumpeter and professional weeper ..... ... anyone not crying hard enough will be deemed a complete bastard and will receive a banning order
Strangely enough but yet again I find nothing to disagree with here. It all started with Diana and has just got ridiculous now. I hate the assumption I should have to join in or I'm a callous twat. Grief is a personal hing not some group activity ffs.
I agree with with everything you say Cest, especially the Diana bullshit. I hurt whenever a 'Bobby Robson' dies ........ I just don't feel the need to add to a pile of soggy scarves to 'demonstrate my grief'. Anyone who accuses me of not caring 'cos I'm not blubbing is likely to end up on his arse.
