I know there is 40 games to go and its a marathon and not a sprint etc etc, BUT!!! We have made a similar start to this season as we did 3 years ago. Identical points ( but just not scoring as many goals ), points are obviously the key fact here. After 10 games in 2010/11 we had 26 pts, we only got 62 pts from the remaining 36 games ( not a fantastic return ) , the reason we won the league that year is because of our start and i can't help but feeling it will be the same this time round. If you take a look at the 2010/11 season the goals did dry up after the explosive start , we nicked draws and won by the odd goal. Basically the promotion was built on cleansheets as any promotion is. I know there is the crowd that say we have no adel this time. No we don't , but i feel there is a bit more balance to the side and we won't be reliant on one superstar this time round. If we can get to 25 pts from the first 10 games will be more than happy and will have a nice little gap which allows for a blip. Once the points are on the board i'm sure the flowing football will come.
Not scoring as many goals is right, Barnsley (second from bottom) on 4 pts have scored more goals than us!
Any chance anyone can get a table up from that season with X amount of games gone and we can keep the comparisons going all season?
Maybe not a table but heres the amount of points we got per game. I've broke it down every 6 games (roughly) for keep a guide and easy for the eyes. Final Position. P46 W24 D16 L6 GD+39 Games Points 1 3 2 6 3 9 4 10 5 13 6 16 --------------- 7 19 8 22 9 23 10 26 11 27 12 28 --------------- 13 29 14 30 15 33 16 34 17 35 18 38 --------------- 19 41 20 41 21 41 22 44 23 47 24 47 --------------- 25 48 26 49 27 52 28 53 29 56 30 59 --------------- 31 60 32 61 33 64 34 67 35 70 36 70 --------------- 37 73 38 76 39 79 40 79 41 82 42 83 --------------- 43 84 44 85 45 88 46 88
Good effort Elnino. Although I was kind of thinking along the lines of having the actual tables up, you know? But, good effort all the same.
I'm really of the opinion goal difference is pretty irrelevent. If you asked the Barnsley manager would he rather of only conceeded two goals in 6 games i'm sure he would swap. i'd rather win 1-0 than lose 4-3.
Have a look at this: http://www.statto.com/football/stats/england/league-championship/2010-2011/table/2010-09-14 You can alter the dates at the top of the table.
Its interesting that Norwich were 8th and Swansea were 13th after 6 games and both went up with us. Moral of the story, the table changes with time.
Strange isn't it? With the exception of 1 we have, on paper, a much better team now. Yet they can't string 4 passes together or score goals, and we keep winning. Always said I will judge after 10 games and we have the players to be a good footballing team, but at the moment its interesting how easily fans trade results for style. This league is horrible. Hoping Brighton play some football tonight and your young mate does his stuff, before we win 1-0 with a goal off Dunne's arse.
Och I don't get you sometimes Stanley, you're the strange one. Give me substance over style any day. Get out of this disgusting league then perhaps we can play a bit next season. Other than that, I can't get my head round the mentality of looking good but not winning. That whole concept was encapsulated by Taarabt's two PL seasons with us. Step-over's, shimmy's, using the outside of the boot endlessly and all before the ball is given away and the attack comes to nothing. Nowte. Zilch............. WASTE. If it takes Dunne's arse to do the biz this year then we should get a mold of it and put in on a plinth outside LR.
Kingdom and I had quite a long chat about this down the pub on Saturday night. For him the result is everything, but I need to enjoy watching my football. Winning obviously helps, but grinding out 1 - 0 victories week in, week out will not keep me going back to the ground (a pre-match pint with Stan, Nines, Col, Stainsey, Beth, Hoops Eternal, Wandle or whoever distinctly eases that particular dilemma). There could be an article in this ....... It is interesting that style is so readily associated with failure.
During a promotion winning season your are expected to have two bad 5-6 game runs where you only pick up 3-4 points. We are actually having a bad run at the moment but the wins keep coming so if all goes to plan we should be on the start of a good run now and around January have another bad run, well lets hope it's just like one we have just had!!
This league is indeed horrible, and we have done nothing to raise the quality to date. I expect the likes of Carroll and Krancjar to change that, but then I turned up last Saturday full of hope and expectation only to find Zamora starting in a 4-4-2! Maybe tonight will be the start of the exciting times. BTW any goals scored off Dunne's arse will be in our own net.
I think there was a pattern, though. We were winning by a lot of goals at the beginning and then teams had to learn how to play against us. They tried to shut us out in games and it got harder to score as the league went on. But we kept winning a lot of games and I think we were great all season long, considering.
