Hopefully this puts yesterday into perspective for some people. It was only 1 game we lost, we took a bit of a hammering but the season isnt over and we can bounce back. You cant give up over 1 result Remember when Man U beat Arsenal 8-2 everyone was saying they are the best team in the world after Barcelona and now they lose 6-1 to Man City Footballs a funny old game
Was it Danny Baker that said only love draws out more emotion than football! A good tonking of the Hammers and all will be forgiven
What so you went to the game yesterday fully expecting Millwall to hammer us, Emilio? Nobody expected City to go to United and win 6-1 just as nobody expected Millwall to come here and win 3-0. Also, explain how its not a one off because beforehand we'd only lost one in 8 and beaten teams like Southampton, Derby and Brighton. Its a freak result, stop trying to create a mountain out of a molehill.
This is an incredibly deluded post. WTF is so good about an unbeaten run? You only pick up 1 point for draws, what about wins? We haven't won enough, nor have we looked like winning enough, because we have played such **** football. Apart from Forest away, we have got exactly what we've deserved so far. And in fact against Southampton we deserved to lose on the balance of play, so that evens it out. Do I have to do this on every thread? Here is a list of matches in which we have played below the level of what I'd expect a promotion chasing team to play like so far: Coventry Reading Bristol City Southampton (2nd half) Barnsley Cardiff Brimingham Millwall So explain how the Millwall performance was a one off? It was a freak result in terms of - they were in the bottom 3 and I can't remember us losing 3-0 at home for a long time. But Millwall completely deserved it and so did we, and no I didn't expect us to lose 3-0, but i wasn't surprised at how badly we played at all. If you think I'm making a mountain out of a molehill then I suggest you take a look at what hundreds of Leicester fans are saying today, I'm not the only one. Man Utd have won about 12 titles with Ferguson, so again I ask, why are Man Utd being compared to us?
The point of this post the way I read it was a Tongue in cheek response to our very disappointing game, and yes season so far. It cheered me up a little watching Man U get owned
No, Emilio. We have started to look a lot better and away points against sides higher than us are good points (especially as they are away) and home wins against teams in the top 4 (Saints, Derby and Brighton) are excellent wins. True yesterday we got what we deserved but that result wasn't coming. Not a chance. Coventry - we won... Reading - Fair enough we were shocking that game Bristol - We couldn't break down a 10 man defence and Maynard scored twice with two shots. Southampton - We were being played off the park by the team who had won all of their games so far... Yet we still held out for the win... Barnsley - Neither team deserved to win but an away point is good (draw away and win at home and you'll win the league and up to yesterday we had been doing that) Cardiff - We were much the better team and could easily have won that game. Birmingham - The referee changed the game and after a solid first half we were under the cosh because of it. Millwall - Probably the only game since Reading where we have fully deserved to get beat.
Coventry - so what if we won? We're talking about performances here, you think Millwall was an isolated performance, I'm telling you you're wrong. Bristol City - why couldn't we break them down? Because we weren't good enough to. Southampton - played off the park by a side who just came up from league one. No matter how you try to rationalise it, that shouldn't be happening. And it probaly wouldn't have if Sven hadn't changed the system and made us negative. Make no mistake, we were very lucky to hold on. Deserved to get beat. Barnsley - FFS man, we were playing Barnsley. What's wrong with you? We shouldn't expect to play better than Barnsley now? Get a grip. Cardiff - no, it was the same as Birmingham, Cardiff were hit with injuries to their strikers and thus they couldn't take advantage of us not taking advantage of all our possession. Birmingham - You're joking surely? The referee made 2 right decisions. What does it say when we've pretty much lost the game when going 1-0 down? We never looked like scoring before the sending off despite dominating possession, that is a sign of an average team. We passed it terribly throughout and once we went behind, we clearly did not have the quality to score a goal. You are part of this deluded group who has this ludicrous notion that we were in control of that game. How are you in contro at 0-0? You can't be. Were negative and poor on the ball, conceded 2 goals, so deserved to get beat.
I went to the Coventry game and we played 80 minutes with 10 men and still won... Breaking down 10 men isn't an easy thing for any team in the division. Southampton had won 5 in 5 going into the game, no matter how bad you try and make it sound it is still a win and a hard fought one. Barnsley, yes I know, the team we lost to last season at their place... 1-1 draw isn't a great result but its not like its the worst result so far is it?! Cardiff, yeah, we outplayed them who cares if they had injuries?! Birmingham, you've changed your opinion then I see. You said it was never a penalty.. Plus Beausejour should have gone off for Brum and we should have had our own penalty... You need to calm down, I have read some of your over reactions but this blows them all out of the water. You wait, lets see what you say IF we win next weekend...
Face it we boys we were crap yesterday and apart from a few flashes we have been pretty poor so far this season. We are clueless in the last 1/3, the final ball if it every comes is almost always bad and the few times we put in a decent final ball theres no one there. Support from midfield in the box is shocking. as for so called box to box players . If we are going to continue to pass to ball to death the whole team needs to start working harder not enough work off the ball the man on the ball to often has no options but to go back or risk a 50/50 which leads to giving the ball away un-challenged. The effort and workrate put in yesterday is unacceptable.
One thing that I notice in that list of teams. Most are below us in the table. It just seems that when we play teams that we 'should' beat, we can't break them down or create enough chances to win the game and that is the one thing that is stopping us from being up near the top. Its something we have to sort out if we're going to have any hope. In the games against the higher placed teams when they take us on toe-to-toe we're fine but when teams look to hit us on the break we can't break them down. Teams are now going to look at that game and say 'That is how you beat Leicester'. Unless we can work out how to beat these teams, then this sort of result will become a lot more frequent. Was it a freak? Maybe, only time will tell. But we have to hope that the players come out fighting now and this serves to galvanise the whole squad. Sometimes it can take something like this to make teams stronger,.
Coventry had 10 men as well... Southampton - again, it wouldn't be problem if it was the only time we'd made the mistake of going defensive and surrendering the initiative, but whilst we got away with it that game, we haven't in a number of others. Barnsley - sorry, it was a poor result and a shocking performance, no doubt about it. No it's not the worst result, we have had a few far worse ones, that is worrying in itself. Cardiff - we didn't outplay them, they were shocking and like Birmingham, we couldn't capitalise. We actually did very little good during the game - the 2 great chances we had were both in the last 5 minutes and were hopelessly wasted. Birmingham - no, I never said that, I have always maintained it was a penalty so please get your facts right. Yes I did say we should have had one and Beausejour should have been sent off - but using these as excuses for a terrible performance is nothing short of self-denial and papering over the cracks. The game was already lost by then because we had surrended the momentum, we never looked like scoring at any point and once 1-0 down I knew we wouldn't get anything out of the game. If we win next weekend it won't make a jot of difference, we will not play well consistently with so many things wrong.
I can see why you were banned from the Hull board for posting drivel. Pure blind optimism without the ability to be objective about the team when analysing it's performance. Do you realise what suppoorting your team is? It's going to the games and getting behind them even when they're 2-0 down at half time. I did this yesterday and they still let me down. This forum has nothing to do with supporting your team, that's why it's called a forum and not a stadium. We'll discuss this later in the season, I'm sure you'll have changed your tune by the end of it.
I think Emilio is right that we can't ignore the problems that are staring us in the face. But I think there is the talent in the squad to overcome them and if we can work out how to play against these counter-attacking sides, then I think we have a real chance of promotion. But that has to happen sooner rather than later because we're going to be seeing many more teams come to the KP and play like Millwall did and get results.
