It'll be interesting to see how we line up. Injuries? Bradley out. That's him done then. Gomez out. Nothing new there. Alisson? Wife had an operation. That's all we know. Should be back. Vvd. Sick. Not likely back according to slot. We may dress rehearse the first game with gravenberch out or we may just rotate macallister and szoboszlai for their fitness (a half each or whatever) Marmadashvilli Frimpong konate endo kerkez Gravenberch macallister Salah wirtz gakpo Ekitike Bench Keeper??? Robertson Tsimikas Jones Szoboszlai Elliott Nunez Ngumoha Chiesa Those to be loaned or sold may influence the bench calls. Doak Stephenson Nunez Chiesa Elliott All still in the shop window.
So you’ve taken ‘not normally miss out’ and interpreted that as most likely won’t be fit? Not sure how you’ve done that as it’s the total opposite of what Slot said.
Not sure. Tbh. I thought the question was about them being available and slot said normally not. I cant remember where I read it. If he is ok for Sunday that will help.
Slot was also asked if any of that quartet are at risk of being sidelined for the FA Community Shield versus Crystal Palace or the Premier League opener at home to AFC Bournemouth. “Virgil normally not,” the head coach replied. “Joe Gomez and Conor Bradley, it’s going to be tight. Alisson will be back in time as well.”
Are we all agreed with this first team now? Alisson Frimpong konate vvd kerkez Gravenberch macallister Salah wirtz gakpo Ekitike Its all mostly fresh and young side with the 3 old stagers who are utterly world class. The bench then Marmadashvilli Bradley (i) Gomez (i) Robertson (old) Endo (old) Jones Szoboszlai (very close to team) Chiesa (cant run) Elliott (might be sold?) Ngumoha (kid) Nyoni (kid) Doak (probably will be sold) Lesser spotted bajcetic (will be loaned) I am looking at nyoni and Ngumoha as real options this season as a result but also Jones as a possible lw option again.
I think before injury Bradley was first choice RB as seemed to be getting most minutes during pre season with Frimpong covering RW. But otherwise it seems like that’s the first team line up now
Will this be treated as a friendly or should we expect to see our strongest available line up? Maybe both?
I think will be first 11 and then rest a few in 2nd half. Only diff may be Mac on bench while still Working up fitness but will be starting v Bournemouth because of Gravenberch suspension
Thr number of subs gives it away. You are allowed 6 subs here. So that says its a friendly but you are in full dress rehearsal mode. Strongest team with 5 players not being subbed. Konate, Van dijk and alisson, Gravenberch as he rests next weekend probably salah as per. So expect both full backs, Szoboszlai/macallister, wirtz, ekitike and gakpo to be subbed. Palace will he ready. It's a big deal for them. We will play it like a dress rehearsal but wont care too much (bar slot who i think is a bit of a serial winner amd wont like to lose) It's another test for slot. I think he didn't even try to motivate them at the end of last year but I do think his attitude to the cups was one of wanting to win so I want to see him demanding more than a good run out here. Day 1 standards should apply in terms of efforts to get up and down the park but obviously preseason take no risks approach also applies as the result is actually.meaningless to everyone except mancs who can't take the current reality.
My attitude, as ever, is that if you're in it you try to win it whilst still understanding that it's a showpiece game and not a serious trophy.
Even if it’s just to use when United try to claim they have more trophies by including this comp which is nonsense as majority of the time was an invitational cup so didn’t even have to win anything and some of their (and our) “wins” were actually draws
