Off topic of Bristol City for a change. I wonder what peoples thoughts are on homosexuals in football and sport in general. Maybe I come from a different generation, but I certainly have no objections to what ANYONE's sexual orientation is. This is football, this is professional competitive sports, to me, that's all that matters. I am becoming more and more increasingly irritated about the men and women who find it completely necessary to shout out to the world what they like to get up to in the privacy of their own bedroom. Tom Daley recently decided to post a video about his new boyfriend. Well great for you Tom, but why is it any concern of mine, or anyone elses other than yours and your family. It was fairly evident to me already that Tom was gay, and I am sure millions of other people were aware if not suspicious, without him having to explain it to the world. The same could be said for Robbie Rogers of LA Galaxy. The ex Leeds player who said, that under so much pressure of being gay he could no longer participate in the sport, only to reverse that decision hardly anytime at all afterwards. Now he is writing that no gay footballer has contacted him since his announcement in February. Like a world of professional sportsman or women are supposed to flood his inbox with support or advice. Nobody cares, and now all it seems to me is that is a shameless attempt to keep yourself in the limelight. I just dont understand why one HAS to be open about it. I am not saying keep it bottled up and don't feel like you can't be your true self, but I don't see anyone come out to the press to tell the world they are straight. I find it more offensive they feel the need to tell the world and get publicity for the sexuality, than them ever being homosexual. Not sure what everyone else thinks.
Totally agree with everything you have said bodyslam. The world has gone berserk wanting to highlight facts about people that shouldn't really matter but for some ridiculous reason the rooftops are full of people shouting about their sexual orientation or that they are being racially abused during football matches. I preferred the days when you just suspected, or probably knew, that someone was gay and the world kept on turning and the facts were accepted without fanfare. Just about every day in the sports news a player is complaining about being racially abused while participating in their chosen field and although I completely disagree with it happening I have had enough of it being constantly shoved down my throat. The political correctness bureau that seems to want to run the world has come full circle and sanity needs to return to all aspects of everyday life, and now I will get on to a similar issue which irks me even more and that is the European Human Rights Court. How on earth have the citizens of Great Britain sat back and allowed the interlopers from the continent decide what is good, and bad, for people who have run their own affairs for centuries thank you very much. I better leave it at that because I will risk offending too many people with my views on what's happening to the country of my birth and to sum it up in a nutshell - it's beyond belief. Rather like Bristol City isn't it? Better get off the line now!
Hahahahaha I did wonder whether I was cutting it a bit fine. But I honestly couldn't care either way. I just don't see the need to be ashamed nor celebrate it. Sexuality, straight, gay or some sort of halfsie, just doesn't have a place in the sport, I think the whole world has accepting people are openly gay. I was watching Only Fools and Horses the other day, "The Jolly Boys Outing".... Theres a scene where Del punches the magician raquel is living with thinking there was something untoward going on between them, when it is then revealed he is actually gay. When Del says "Why didn't you say" his answer was "It's not really something one drops into an introduction". I then thought! GOD, how times have changed, people will tell you they are gay before they tell you their name these days!
Just another one happened today to add to the list. Ex Olympic ice skating medallist Brian Boitano remarked when he was appointed as an ambassador to the U.S. Sochi Olympics team that he wanted to state that he is gay. Go figure Brian we've known it for years and quite frankly we don't care too much. Give us a break please!
I don't have any problem with anyone's sexual leanings, religious and/or political beliefs , their liking or disliking of any pastimes. What I do object to is someone trying to ram (no pun intended) their beliefs/leanings down my throat. That includes smokers who continually try to recruit others to the evil weed, religious freaks of all persuasions and even Gasheads. But worst of all over the last twenty years or so, is the overt and overpowering way that those who prefer single gender sex, are on a crusade via every communication medium available to humans. So keep your own preferences to yourself and your own circle of friends.
If I was an athlete , I'd be gutted I was in the news for anything less than my talents in sport, unless I was being noted for charity work perhaps. When you are only in the papers for your social preferences, it just seems as if its pure money grabbing. Get in the limelight for all the right reasons pertaining to your gifted skill.
What he needs to understand is not everyone wants their personal lives in the spotlight it is only when a newspaper or something going to reveal it then I can see why people will come out then I suspect the tom daley one falls into that and some just want to be honest with themselves and their supporters. For sponsorship it does matter aussie diver came out before 2012 lost a lot of his sponsorship due to it so if you wanna be sponsored keep it in the bedroom
