Coming down :- ASTON VILLA and SUNDERLAND least likely of the 3 play home to Everton away to Watford a win or 2 draws will DOOM Newcastle NEWCASTLE most likely to come down cruel last fixture against Tottenham who just need a draw to be runners up NORWICH meat in the sandwich ... who have the opposite fixtures to Sunderland, need to win by 11 goals if Sunderland achieve 2 draws ... so Newcastle, Norwich and Villa will be on our fixture list next season Coming up :- WIGAN BURTON and who knows??? In season 2008/9 Scunthorpe in 6th was the last team out side of the top 4 to win the playoffs, in the 6 years since 4th placed have 4 promotions whilst 3rd place has 2. -.-.-.- LAST 11 YEARS 5th -5- 3 -3 - 6th (Scunny) 3-4-4-4-4-3rd ( PNE) so looking maybe at 3rd or 4th? After SOD left Walsall THEY had enough games in hand to have finished in top 2. last 12 games BURTON COLLAPSED Bradford gained 28 pts F 16 A 4 ( L 2 W 9 ) Millwall gained 26 pts F 21 A 8 ( L 2 W 8 ) ( Scunny 27 pts) Walsall gained 25pts F 21 A 13 ( L 3 W 8 ) Barnsley gained 22pts F 16 A 9 (L 2 W 6 ) WALSALL v BARNSLEY seems the easier fixture, with Bradford needing a couple goal advantage before the den ! my prediction Bradford and Walsall in final Bradford to win it... romantic choice would be Barnsley !
GILLINGHAM and Coventry both collapsed 2nd half of season but we're good enough to win play offs first half of the season. Both missed out on the play offs in the end
I feel sorry for Dack could have been a championship player, with a half season behind him and settled in a team ... now has to hope for a club to come looking from the champs or PREM!!!!
Not sure who said no in the end, but he didn't come and at the time I could understand why- Yes, different ball game now which might suit us better
their manager, it was the same at Colchester ..bad advice............ a good season here and they could move on for a princely sum .
looks like I was right Newcastle Norwich and Villa on our fixture list Newcastle furthest trip but easy ....
At the time GILLINGHAM were challenging for an automatic promotion. Letting him go would've been costly at the time. GILLINGHAM had their top striker, top defender and Dack out injured for a bit which added to their spectacular demise, gettin 19 points from their last 23
so we await with baited breath the div 1 play off to see who will join us .... and the championship deserter who will be jumping ship .. in the first instance we will have a hard core of 6 teams AV ...Newcastle .... Norwich plus 3 from Derby Hull BHA and Sheff .... I think the weakest could be Sheff, from this 36 points getting 12 is a must. early predictions as to top 2? Hull or Derby with Newcastle
A 'must' for what? Survival? Reaching the playoffs? Automatic promotion? I don't understand why some people insist on placing so much emphasis on the points gained from specific games. There were lots of people on here that insisted that the Rotherham game was MUST WIN - we only drew, yet still survived by twelve points. Obviously, everything's crystal clear in hindsight, but why talk in absolute terms? Points are worth the same whoever they're earned against - who would've thought that we'd take six points from Middlesbrough, but only one from Rotherham? There's no harm in making predictions, but how about saying '12 points from those games would be a decent return'?
Brighton for me to go up,quality side, nice football, great fans, that is what we need to aim for. what they have done,we can do.
Derby V Brighton final I reckon, Brighton deserved to go up automatically, much better side than Middlesbrough
Brighton deserve it, besides, I can't remember the last time we got as much as a point against them, so it would be good to get shot of them!
THEN YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE BASIC FUNDAMENTALS . and your comment regarding Rotherham is like chaff before the wind...It is simplicity itself to state we only drew and were safe by 12 points that is hindsight... it was made at that point in time .. not 6 or so games after the event... on the day 7 points clear 22nd a point above Rotherham 23rd so a loss would have put 2 behind Rotherham so all points made re must win were close to the mark ..... comment crap ..no stats said that it was my opinion that some while later I humbly retracted, THE STATS ACTUALLY showed they were on track...
OH for romanticism ............... emulate City promoted and won the cup only difference would be 2 Wembley appearances in a matter of weeks!
In terms of good away following, the Chapmionship would have been hard pressed to get 3 better teams than those that came down. Will guarantee some big crowds in the Champ next season, a good chance we could see 25,000+ a couple of times next season at the Gate, maybe even more often if we are doing well!
Are they increasing the away allocation in the Atyeo next season, or giving the whole stand to away fans ? The likes of Newcastle and Villa would probably fill it.
We have 1,000 season ticket holders staying in the Atyeo, so I guess away fans get the rest of the Atyeo.
