We beat MU this season. I know it seems like decades ago now, but it was only two or three months. So there's something there that we're just not seeing at the moment, but hopefully it can come back. We've still got a seven point cushion from the relegation places and soon all of our first team will be available again. Let's just hope we can get through to the end of this season and survive. (Three wins would probably do it, although I admit it's hard to see where they're coming from at the moment.)
Yes good points i really hope we will be ok... I think if we just went on an unbeaten run for 4/5 games it would give everyone some confidence. We just like the players are just lacking that at the moment. But i think we will turn it round.
We did that last time we were in the PL only more convincingly by 2-0. I am not going to rant or point fingers but am beginning to get a little concerned about the level of performances. I can accept defeats and I can even accept heavy defeats - if we are playing well. I cannot accept abject performances week after week though. This is not an anti Mark Bunn thing but since John Ruddy got injured it has mostly turned to **** and although that may just be a coincidence it might stem from that with players not feeling as confident about what is behind them. I only wish I could call CH and offer a solution and I suspect he is in the same boat as us and cannot point point exactly what has gone wrong recently.
Yesterday was beyond poor but we need to look at the positives. 1. Before this appalling run started we were seventh, ten points clear of 18th. We've taken one point from six games and we're 13th and seven points clear of 18th. The teams below us are either playing just as badly, or started so badly that they're so far behind us that a win here and there isn't making much of a difference. 2. We still have to play Reading, Southampton, Villa and Fulham at Carrow Road and we've still got to go to QPR and Wigan. There should be at least three wins and three draws in there. 3. With Holt and now Whittaker fit again we're pretty much back to full strength. 4. It's a cliche, but we only have to worry about the league now. 5. This may be the kick up the arse some of the players needed and will show Hughton that some of the squad players aren't up to it (Surman, Barnett, Kane etc)
How the hell can you find any positives from the last three games? Clueless, disjointed and with a misfiring midfield, no service to whoever is playing up front, so absolutely no goal threat. Allied to this, there are now four (4) days left of the transfer window and all we've done to address these issues is bring in a(nother) back up goalkeeper Regarding the forthcoming fixtures you mention, well unless all those sides play worse than Sheringham under 16's, I can't see where our next point is coming from. In short, Hughton's one dimensional set up has been rumbled - we no longer scare anybody or pose a threat that can't be easily negated. The only positive thing I know is that without radical improvement, we won't be competing at this level next season. Sorry, but that's how I see it.
I think the only positive I can find is that Whittaker should be back. I like Russ Martin purely as a defender and a nuisance at set pieces. But I do feel we have been awful down the right hand side since Whittaker was injured. I think we can return to a better shape Wednesday and Hoolahan will benefit.
Yesterday was one of those games, I'm afraid. Given that Surman was coming back from 3 months out and Holt was on the bench, it was never going to be straight-forward. Had Barnett's shot gone a few inches further or Holt's header been a yard to the right, Luton would have never had the chance to catch City on the break. The Spurs and QPR games are all that are important now (Spurs lost 2-1 to Leeds today and QPR were thumped by MK Dons yesterday). Pick up points from those and the whole picture improves. Keep the faith ffs! OTBC!
Guys, as bad as we were - and we were bad with no real adjective able to describe the performance (abysmal, dire, inept, etc doesn't adequately cover it) we mustn't forget how good Luton were by comparison and how they worked so hard as a unit and individually and did a number on us in both terms of tactics and work-rate. They wanted it more and it showed on the pitch and in the terraces. Rather than dwell on our shambolic display I'd rather praise Luton for a display that did credit to them, their supporters and non-league football. Well done the Hatters !
It's not all about yesterday, though Rick. Our last three performances have all been as woeful as that, so it runs deeper than getting dumped on by a team 85 places below us in the pyramid, I'm afraid.
I don't agree with that post at all, yet I find it extremely difficult to argue with... a compelling argument!
I have a theory that some or all of the present squad have seen in the press the sort of money that we seem to be prepared to pay on player(s) and wages and have become disenchanted with their own lot. The past few results have been extremely disappointing and it is the fans who bare the brunt of the dsappointment. We see that CH is very aware of the disappointment, but are the players? Some may genuine feel that the team has been underporforming, but I bet there are some who give a s*it. Only hope that we survive the Prem for another year, but if we do how many of the present squad will be around at the start of season 2013/14?
I get worried when people start postulating what players are thinking and how it affects their performance. Nobody was doing that during the 10 match unbeaten run, so why now? I fear that it's a kind of emotional analysis (I feel it, therefore it is). It reminds me of when Norwich fans abused Wes Hoolahan as he was leaving the ground after the 7-1 loss to Colchester. With all we know about Wes Hoolahan now, was that justified? I certainly don't think so. Yes, City have had a bad run of results lately, but does that give licence to abuse players? Is that supporting City? These 25 players are our only chance of PL football next season, so why abuse them? It really dumbfounds me!
I think people have forgotten how well we played prior to, and even during the 'losing streak.' Some on here who are now suggesting we might not have played as well as we thought, are the ones who were raving about our performances a few short weeks ago. If there is one area that CH possibly needs to work on, it is boosting the players confidence. If we can put in a good performance on Wednesday night I think things will change for the better.
