In the dire situation we find ourselves in there can only be a couple of managers out there with the know how and experience to get us out of this mess. Mick McCarthy is one of these and I would welcome his appointment as the next manager of Town. Yes there will be those that say that he is boring and his football is boring blah, blah but at the end of the day we need points on the board. We need a no-nonsense manager to shake our shirkers out of their complacency and to basically sort out this huge bloody mess. This job is too big for a novice right now and I believe that Mick McCarthy is the right man to rescue us. I stand to be shot down in flames but I couldn't give two hoots! http://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/21736/town-linked-with-mccarthy-talks
Personally i think the best man you could get would be Karl Robinson from MK Dons. McCarthy would only be a stop gap for you right now. Robinson would have enough about him to keep you up this season & then would build you a decent squad from there IMO.
I think the perfect replacement would be MM, but NEVER, EVER a previous manager or an ex player, it just never work out and their image would be tarnished for ever, i.e jim magilton-----what a player!, manager?--------------- and will burley be remembered for a great player (who can forget his debut marking george best) a manager that took us up or the manager that took us down with the lowest recorded points in the premiership and cant stay away from the high stool or as in derby`s case cant stay away from players wives. i know which memories i would rather cherish.
Burley took us down with the lowest recorded points in the premiership???? Really?? We were only relegated on the final day of the season (ok, we got stuffed 5-0 at Liverpool) but lowest points- think you need to look at our last manager when he was at Derby for that (or it may have been Sunderland - can't remember) but definitely not us under Burley
MM until the end of season and then take it from there would be ok, good firefighter but nothing spectacular. Our only aim atm is survival, it's a short term situation that needs sorting fast. I don't think we can be looking too far into the future at this stage although I would like to see us appoint someone who's younger in the summer. I know we need to build for the future but first we have to make sure where that future lies, in the championship or lower, before we give someone a two/three contract. Or we could just go younger now, regardless of the consequences, and set out a long term plan and stick by it. Not sure which option I want at the moment but I'd rather stay in the championship and rebuild next summer than drop a level and rebuild in a different way.
Lowest points tally in the Premier League – Derby 2008 under Paul Jewell. But it was only a matter of time before he “turned it around” and all the fault of the board for “not investing”. Great manager – humiliating multi-goal defeat after humiliating multi-goal defeat mean nothing – great manager. Just needs more time, that’s all. And some more and some more and then a bit more after that. Sunderland had a pretty disastrous points haul in 2003 under Mick McCarthy, but MM had only been in charge a few months. That was mainly Howard Wilkinson’s fault. I hope Wilkinson isn’t on ME’s radar.
So you think that the likes of Mick McCarthy would take the job on a short term contract until the end of the season then IF, (and the stress must be put on the IF) he keeps you up, it's thanks very much but p1ss off we don't want you anymore ? MM would want at least a 3 year contract anyway. Look, with the greatest respect, Town are not the attractive proposition that they once were. Bottom of the CCC, dwindling attendances, millions in debt to the owner, no real money to spend. You boys need to get a reality check, just saying Cue vitriol from Jonah
Of course I don't think that would really happen but sometimes I wish you could get a manager on trial. You never know, he may not fancy commiting to Town long term and may be happy with that situation but I doubt it. Managers have been known to do similar, Hiddink at Chelski for instance.
At least Millsy recognises that Edwards should be played further forwards. Carlos is NOT a defender and JET is NOT a winger. Can we please just play people in positions where they are comfortable and most effective. We don't need attacking full backs, clean sheets and defending are far more important at the moment.
