What a terrific read mate, even if it is in a newspaper I don't consider even worthy of arse wiping material. Mon is the real deal without a shadow of a doubt. Fan, devoted follower and above all proven, successful winner as a player and manager. I still pinch myself every morning to make sure its all true.
How you doing Billy? Been a bit concerned about you reading some of your posts over the last few days?
Glad to hear it kidda. You're probably sick of everyone telling you to keep your chin up and all that but to be honest a bloody good cry works wonders and there's no shame in that mate. It also helps to keep talking to people Billy. Don't let it bottle up inside. That's not good for you or for those around you.
Plenty of crying, (when I'm on my own). Plenty of bottling up, (when I'n around others). Just the way I am I guess.
As has already been stated, the Mail is not a paper that is held in high regard by many in these parts. However, that was a cracking article which I really enjoyed..
Take care Billy. Day by day. Never forget we are all here for you if you need us. Going back to the OP I think the beauty of the story is that it shows that men can be quite sentimental and emotional, even if they usually hide it. I love the fact that our manager actually went to seek out a bit of our history, not because he is the manager, but because he is a FAN. How many of us have done the same thing to relive some of the glory days (and not so glory days!) of our youth? I certainly have and it really means a lot to me that our manager actually feels just like me and thousands of others about Sunderland AFC. Even better, he knows exactly what tomorrow means!
I've never been back to Roker since the final game v Liverpool. I did get in my car once with the intention of going (about 2005), headed over the bridge past the bowling ally then stopped...I parked up for five minuets or so and decided to head home. I think something inside me just wanted to believe the old girl is still there, and always will be.
Similar article in the Times today by George Caulkin. Much better read than the Mails! I sent him a tweet to say what a great read it was and he replied saying thank you very much!
Excellent read. I well remember the Chelsea game at home when we just needed a point for promotion. Chelsea scored when the ball went in off Tommy Harmer's back side ..... so we had to endure a further year in the old 2nd division An excellent period to be a Sunderland supporter. Whilst I'm reminiscing, we had six seasons with white shorts . It was Bob Stokoe who re-instated the black shorts.....
Sorry if already posted, my Geordie neighbour has just been over so I could fix his E-Pad. He showed me this from the Mail. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...earch-Sunderlands-soul.html?ito=feeds-newsxml
