http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21763900 Think this would be a great idea for development of Celtic's younger players... Better League Structure - 12 12 10 10???
In theory its a good idea. Young players get experience plauing for a celtic team with celtic coaches at a competative level. However what happens if we have an injury crisis? Would a player registered for the colt side be able to play for the senior side if needed? Also fringe players/players returning from injury, how do we get them game time? At the min ee hsbe the drvelopment side. They can play for them if needed. With a colt team registration rules would mean they cant chop and change between sides
Was using my ****ing new phone - piece of ****e. My old iphone never had these problems! Should read it back before I hit submit in future mind
Yes, why not? It would be a constant crutch for the lower league sides. Whatever else about Sevco, they are going to provide a lot of finance for other clubs. I wouldn't expect a Celtic colts team would provide as much financial support, but it would be more than a lot of teams could bring.
To be honest i wouldn't have a problem with Celtic having a colt team in the league, as Pud said it would be good for developement of younger players, but why should an associate member club only in the SFL 7 months & operating at a huge loss even be considered for this.
Would a simple idea not be to say next year, top 2 teams in the u-19 league get promoted? That way, no one could complain about who the colt teams are. If any of the colt teams ever finish say in the bottom 2 of the last division, they are replaced with the winners of the u-19 league from that year or something?
I think it's a pish idea. So there. I don't think it's fair that two teams will be able to bleed their youngsters <kennethwilliamsface> in a competitive league while everyone else has them competing in a reserve/junior comp. From a selfish Celtic point of view, I would've thought that our young players would be (probably very slightly) more likely to get injured playing in the bottom tier. A lot of fans think this whole thing is being done to appease fans of Rangers and Celtic - Longmuir is almost certainly floating it with the knowledge that Sevco cannot possibly play in the bottom tier along with their "colts" team (even the name gies me the wullies). As I understand it, a couple of chairmen have already said that they're against it and weren't consulted (Gilmour at St Mirren and the indominatable Turnbull Hutton being two) so I reckon it's dead in the water already. Good. It was a ****e idea and would only lead to fans outside of Glasgow thinking there was more of a west coast bias (which they'll think anyway).
