It's been reported that City are after a CB in January, and as usual, Colo is being mentioned here and there. Given that he's just signed a new deal, presumably it would take 10-12mil to lure him away from us.

My question is, given his age would you cash in?

I know he's one of our best players and is said to have a presence in the dressing room. He also organizes our defense and has made vital clearances etc. etc. He is not without his mistakes though.

Would anyone begrudge him having a shot at the big time?

(P.s - don't interpret this as me saying I want to sell him because I don't. But he's not getting any younger and surely there comes a point where you have to seriously think about such a deal?)

a tough one... if Citeh offered £15m I think we would sell... maybe even for £10m.
It's about being abloe to replace him though and the cost of that.

Take 15m-20m to even think about. That is of course insanely high to an outsider but you are buying more than just a player. I think he is the only natural leader we have. I can't believe it would even be considered given our current situ. It would be a stupid thing to do even with his shaky form.

Don't get me wrong if I listed the players in order of who I'd sell first, he would be bottom. Money talks though, and our chairman listens to it

    Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he wouldn't! I just wouldn't <laugh>

I don't think any of us would. Captain Courageous would be a very hard act to replace.

As has been said, it isn't just what he does on the ball, it's his whole contribution to the team that's immense.

He reads the game well and is always there to plug gaps and cover for his team mates. We'd be mad to let him go.

If we did sell him that would mean we'd be looking for 3 centre-halves ffs

Doubt they'd go for him. Colo is 30 now (or just about). City'll be looking for someone long term I imagine. Then again, they did sign Maicon...

He doesn't rely on pace and I think he'll be able to perform until he's 33-34. However, when you start talking about £12m for 3-4 seasons then add on we're supposedly paying him £60k p/w then thats £6-7m a season. We wont get a player as good as him (we simply wont) but we could get two very good CB's and if the money was reinvested to make the squad a bit stronger (and increase competition for the first team) then its more a step sideways than a step back. If they're mid-20's it would also be a sensible move really.

He's our best defender and the club captain, I really don't see how we could possibly hope to achieve anything without Colo - we need to find a partner for him in defence, not get rid!

Besides, he's better playing the left side of central defence and Lescott can't even get in the team currently.

So it's a no unless City offer £20m + Lescott.
