Collins joins Championship club Nottingham Forest on 3-year deal

STOKE CITY can confirm that defender Danny Collins has departed the Club to join Nottingham Forest.

The 31 year old Wales international links up the npower Championship outfit for an undisclosed fee, having flown back home from the Potters’ tour of the USA to complete a 3-year deal at the City Ground.

Collins signed for Stoke from Sunderland in August 2009 and went on to make 60 appearances during his three year spell at the Britannia Stadium.

His opportunities of first team football were limited last term, however, featuring on only three occasions against Thun and Valencia in the UEFA Europa League and Crawley Town in the FA Cup.

Loan spells in the Championship with both Ipswich Town and West Ham United ensured he did register 30 appearances, with Collins playing a part in the Hammers’ promotion campaign back to the Barclays Premier League.

The Club would like to wish Danny all the best for the future.

Stoke City have confirmed they are close to finalising a deal to sign Houston Dynamo defender Geoff Cameron.

The Potters have fought off late interest from Everton to agree a $2.5million (£1.6m) fee with the MLS side for the 27-year-old, who has also now successfully agreed personal terms.

Cameron will now join up with the rest of the squad at their pre-season base in Orlando, where he will undergo a medical.

One stumbling block could be Cameron's work permit as he has not played the required 75 per cent of the USA's games over the past two years.

However, Stoke chief executive Tony Scholes is confident a permit will eventually be granted via an appeal.

"Whilst we would not normally confirm a transfer until everything is complete, we have agreed a fee and personal terms in this instance and the player will now join up with the squad in Orlando to have his medical," Scholes told the club's official website.

"Assuming that this goes according to plan, the completion of the transfer will then be subject to us obtaining a work permit, which will probably be done by way of an appeal by early August ahead of the new season."

    Options

Stoke boss Tony Pulis is delighted with his latest capture, believing his versatility in particular will prove a real asset.

He has also dismissed any concerns about the player stepping up from the MLS to the Premier League.

"He will give us plenty of options. He can play at centre-back, across midfield and even at full-back as well," said Pulis.

"With the squad that we have, it's always useful to have players who are versatile, so in that sense he will be a good asset for the club.

"We believe that he is a player who can cope with the Premier League because he has done exceptionally well over the past year.

"We have watched him a few times, but he also comes with great recommendations from many who consider him one of the top players in the MLS."

Another square peg to fit into a round hole? I hope not and he could be a good signing but we all know how TP works.

Potters given go-ahead to conclude American's signing

STOKE CITY have been given the go-ahead to complete the signing of American international Geoff Cameron from Houston Dynamo.

The Club were successful with their appeal to obtain a work permit for the 27-year-old utility player at a hearing in Manchester on Wednesday.

Chief Executive Tony Scholes and manager Tony Pulis presented City’s case to the appeals panel which was convened at the Etihad Stadium.

“We are delighted that the appeals panel have approved the work permit and we are now in a position to conclude the transfer,” said Scholes.

“It’s been a difficult period between agreeing the transfer deal and the hearing, most difficult for Geoff in particular because his life has been on hold.”

He added: “Thankfully though, we have now progressed to a point where Geoff can focus on the start to his career at the Britannia Stadium.”

I was'nt fussed either way about this deal tbh lads! NOT sure what to think or say for that matter. I honestly don't know enough about the guy to comment. Heard he's a midfielder come full back or tother way round?? As said, looks like square pegs in round holes. Time will tell I guess.
