Not quite as shocking as Adkins' dismissal but eyebrow-raising nonetheless. This brilliantly written piece sums up my thoughts pretty well: http://www.guardian.co.uk/tv-and-radio/blog/2013/jan/22/colin-murray-motd2-bbc
So do I; the gist of the article for those who can't be bothered to read it is Murray is going because the pundits didn't like him and that in that case the axe should have fallen on the other side of the table (in other words, to cut the likes of Hansen, Shearer and co).
Couldn't care less who the presenter is tbh, haven't watched either MOTD or MOTD 2 for who knows how many years because of the unbelievably **** punditry team
MOTD and MOTD2 are oh so yesterday. I record the programmes and then make them almost tolerable to watch by fast forwarding between the games. It improves both of the programmes by over 1 000%. If you wanted great company and scintillating conversation you wouldn't invite any of that mundane lot for dinner.
Is that with a Sky+ box or do you still have a VCR hooked up to your TV taping it? I'd have thought it would be the latter.
That's pretty much how I feel about it. A large section of the viewers (hereafter referred to as mindless twats) are only interested in seeing a "lad" and aren't really bothered about sensible and intelligent football analysis. That's not to say that this Mark Chapman, who I know very little about, isn't capable of the latter, but the mindless twats will only be interested in his credentials as a bantersaurus rex. It's a shame for Murray as he was a rare beacon of common sense among the increasingly useless bunch of football pundits at the BBC, but he clearly wasn't getting enough mindless twats tweeting about how he "totes cracked me up with his banter about Rooney's hair lol #lad #MOTD2banter #chinos". Personally I don't really care who presents the show, as I rarely pay attention to the analysis anyway, but you have to feel for Murray who seemed to be more than good enough.
There is nothing wrong with betamax matey. My old machine is still going strong and it produces great images from my old black and white set.
I rarely watch any build up to any games unless Gary Neville is on it. Still have a memory of a recent international tournament (can't remember if it was the Euros or the WC) when England were playing Slovakia. All the pundits beforehand were talking about how the only Slovakian player they knew was Skrtel and he must be their best player because he played in the mighty Premier League. Lee Dixon said something like England should be wary of Hamsik as he is a good player, and all the other pundits, led by the biggest **** of the lot Hansen, burst out laughing and called him a swot
Seriously great news. He has rendered MOTD2 unwatchable for me - just watch the games and skip the rest. Awful over-friendly banter with the ex-pros even worse than Lineker's. I'm not anti-Murray, just keep him away from MOTD. And the magazine format, with the (seemingly) five minutes worth of crap, bobbly-headed, "hilarious" animated lead-ins to the match coverage, is even worse. Got to replace him with someone with real charisma - Freddy Ljungberg perhaps...
Dixon made MOTD2 better than MOTD when it first aired. He is wasted on ITV sandwiched between Southgate & Townsend and incessant commercials.
Now, if they replaced the whole of the presenting team on MOTD and appointed Nigel Adkins I might watch it. Intelligent, articulate, enthusiastic and engaging.. Would seem to me to have most of the qualifications to take the media by storm..
