After the thread posted yesterday, think many of us will be happy if this one is true..

Carlton Cole is being lined up as Andy Carroll’s replacement at Newcastle.

The West Ham and England striker could be the first big name out of the door at Upton Park following their relegation to the Championship on Sunday.

Toon boss Alan Pardew - the man who took Cole to West Ham in 2006 - is understood to be keen to use some of the £35million the club got for Carroll from Liverpool to take Cole to St James’ Park.

And with the Hammers having already gone down, the 27-year-old could be available for as little as £7 million.

Not a bad purchase for the mags mate Pardew got him playing at his best and would probably do it again. Hasn't done that great at West Ham this season but apart from Parker who has?

Aye and if he goes and is a success up there how many will be complaining because Bruce didn't buy him?

I don't think he'd be a bad signing at all. Pretty sure if the Mags did get him, he won't be the only striker arriving over in Newcastle.

Yes he had a **** game the other day at Wigan and missed a sitter but the man has proven he can score at the top level, is a huge presence and to be frank I think he'll relish playing against our current defence.

7 million isn't bad business in my opinion.

I seem to be the only one who thinks he's ****e,

Proven goal scorer? hardly set the world on fire.

With these figures i bet the mags are not overjoyed.

Can someone tell me where he is proven enough to warrant a move to a bigger club, (which newcastle is)

He's never been a out and out goal scorer but he's a massive fella who is always going to cause defenders problems with his strength and height. Surely he's the sort of striker that you play alongside a more prolific , natural goal scorer.

I've seen him play at our place a few times and he has a bit of attitude about him (the Mags seem to relish picking up similar player, Nolan, Barton, even Ranger etc) and to be honest I think Sunderland are crying out for a bit of steel in the team. We are far, far too lightweight all over the pitch at the moment and I'm not saying that Cole is the answer, but certainly players of similar physique and stature would be a benefit.

He's ****e mate, and apologies for this, the Toon deserve better.

He's a poor mans Kenwyne, he has the attributes and ability to be quality, but whereas Kenwyne turned up maybe 1 in 5, it's more like 1 in 8 for Cole.

With that scoring record, he's not even close to replacing Bent or Carroll.

Carlton Cole is not better than Kenwyne Jones. I think he is a younger Emile Heskey.

Cole is not for me, don't rate him much, but if this turns out to be true, I would be cautious about extracting the urine. I remember similar mumblings when leon best was brought in and we have missed him big style since he has been injured. He has proved me wrong.
The same could be said about bramble. Although I wouldn't have him at Newcastle, we took the piss when he signed for you lot and I think on the whole he has had a very decent season for Sunderland.
