Hi all, First post on the site but I just wanted to know peoples feeling on the transfers we are being linked with... What on earth can Joe Cole offer us?! I know £3m (reported) is nothing these days but we have depth on the wing - Lennon, Bale, Pienaar, Modric, Van der Vaart, Kranjcar, Bentley and young players like Townsend and Rose - Most fans didn't want him when he was on a free transfer last year! You would expect Bentley and Kranjcar not to be there next season but surely it's moves like this that are stopping young talent like Townsend from getting a chance in the side - and IF we do need cover on the wing why not go upmarket a bit or at least not another sicknote. As for Parker - He is getting on a bit, we are set in central midfield and he has been made to look better by playing for lesser clubs - I just don't see the point in splashing out up to 8 million for the guy! We should be looking to keep our squad young, not load it up with second hand player getting on a bit... Thought?!
Hopefully this is all stuff and nonsense Lily White, otherwise I'd get very . And yes, we have to bring on our youngsters and it appears that some of them are ready for it.
Cole has done nothing since he left the chavs, I really can't see our other players seeing him as competition for their place on the pitch. Therefore being a total waste of time and money. I have to agree with all comments on Parker, the guy was made to look good in a relegated team. That is not really hard, he was the best of a S H I T E bunch of players that have been sent down the the championship and will probably stay there for many many years.....Those bubbles will be floating in an empty 60,000 seater stadium that will be less than half full.
Have to agree here, Cole is a talented player who at one stage was a key player for Chelsea but I feel now he is not the same player, wrong attitude and would be a liability and there is no way we can have Cole and VDV in the same team as it would cause too many issues, especially agaisnt a quality midfield. As for parker, 8 million, heard people say thats a "bargain" again can't agree as while he had a great season for west ham, by their standards as they got relegated, the reason he shone and stood out was because of his desire and attitude which comes through more when your playing for a struggling team, if he was to move to a club fighting for a top four place then he won't have the same impact and certainty isn't the type of player we need to push us into the top four.
Big Johnny....... I have to agree mate, there is no reason for Parker at all. If anything I think we need to keep hold of Niko, he is a much better player all round than Parker. Niko is a taller slower version of Modders (maybe not quite as talented) but he can hold on to the ball well. Has an amazing ability to strike a ball with both feet. Has a good eye for a pass. Why not do our best to hold on to him and not waste the money on a player that shone in a team that got relegated.
In recent times, Cole has been injured almost as much as Woodgate. Do we really want to allocate a valuable squad place to another potential crock?
I think it's just another case of Harry seeing 'a bargain' and snapping him up - he got a few goals for limited money so not much of a loss... Harry has to realise that not all bargains are good ones! Sure we don't want to become huge overspenders like citeh but we need to stop stifling the talent in our squad with ageing knock offs

The Cole stories are horse s**t, his agent has already dismissed the claims of any deal. Parker however. I wouldn't mind Parker coming in with the (hopefull) departure of Jenas to QPR (£7m reportedly!!!) and Wilson to Napoli with fee's around £10-£12m. Take Parker in for 60k a week replacing Jenas and Wilson's wages, around £10m would do nicely, also leaves Arry a bit of cash in the pot too!
I think Scott Parker is a brilliant player, but i just can't see where we would play him, or what he would add to our team. The pairing of Hudderstone/Sandro and Modric hardly needs work does it? And as for Joe Cole...............well after watching a player as classy as Kranjcar struggle to get on even the bench last season i really hope we wouldnt waste any time on him. Can we just work on buying some new strikers and maybe a centre back first please Harry? COYS.
Cole is a waste of space. Harry should have his head checked. Parker on the other hand is a very good buy.Our achilles heel over the years has been our soft centre especially away from home. We are just too weak without the ball. Sandro has been fantastic in sorting that problem out but with a long season and injuries etc we need a similar back up eg Parker. The bonus is that for certain away matches and with the right fromation for that particular game we could have both Parker and Sandro in CM IN A 4-5-1. This will make it very difficult for teams to get past our midfield.
We're perpetually linked to Joe Cole - but if he doesn't drop his weekly wage demands by at least £30k per week, we won't be signing him.
Having seen what Cole is capable of when used effectively three mill seems a bargain. He is unencumbered by international selection right now (that could chage) and can do a job for us. As for Parker, he is no spring chicken, but he does the right things at the right time simply and effectively. But for him, the Spammers would have been down by Christmas. What I would say, is that I would welcome both as long as they weren't our marquee signings. We need to sign some top talent to convince the likes of Bale and Modric that we are going to go all out for the Champions League again.
Say no to Cole. Bale, Lennon, Modric, Rose and even Townsend fill that LW. Why sign someone who rejected us for more money?!
Definately no to Joe Cole thanks. He didn't want to join us last year and chose Liverpool instead. Modric, Parker, Sandro and Huddlestone as our central midfielders would be good for next season but £10 million would be too much for a 30 year old in my view.
The argument that Cole turned us down doesn't stand up. Parker has been in our sights at least twice and has turned us down, once to go to perrenial losers newcastle! Cole needs gametime to relaunch his career. I only hope that the Scousers haven't ruined him like they did Keano.
I didn't know Parker rejected us twice? Chirpy rides again, you are All Hail Chirpy from 606 I take it.
There's a place in every squad for a toiling workhorse, Lidls. Fletcher was badly missed against Barca, for example.
No doubting that the style of player is important however Parker for me strikes me as someone that couldn't perform for a club mounting a serious challenge for the top four as while he looks "great" in a relegation threatened team I don't believe he has the right mental belief to make the step up.
