You can go watch Coldplay at the Stadium of ****e next year in June. Anyone going?

If you can't make it, CANTPLAY are playing there every other week if you can't make the concert.

I'm going to be very honest and say that I think Coldplay are absolutely brilliant.
Their lyrics are bad and they are extremely cheesy at times but they have produced some of the best songs of the past decade.
Shoot me down all you like but it is a trend to not like Coldplay come on. People see them as the central commercial band so immediately don't give them a chance and go back to their Indie.
I used to be like that but I've been a fan ever since seeing them at Glastonbury a few years ago.

Their new album isn't that good but Rush of Blood to the Head and X&Y are brilliant albums.
Suit yourself if you're not fond of them, just needed to point out that there was at least one fan on here :p

I'm also a massive Radiohead and White Stripes fan so I'm not all commercial.

Coldplay are shameless rip off merchants, are massively pretentious and very irritating, but I was driving through Uganda when Fix You came on one of the team's ipod (playing through the speakers) and it was genuinely one of the best moments of my life. Absolutely love the song now!

I've seen Coldplay live a few times now and have to say that they are really good live.

Got a few of the albums and listen to them very occasionally but I'd see them live again anyday.

Maybe its something about Coldplay. I too had abit of an 'emotional' moment listening to Clocks, while over looking the Austrian Alps! Some say, it was because of the beauty of scenery. Though, I believe, it could possibly be down to the fact I'd spent so much money on Winter Gear, just for a couple weeks worth of use!

Ah, Radiohead and the White Stripes, those unknown underground bands...

Kidding, and I agree with you. Coldplay aren't my favourite band in the world but I have enjoyed a lot of their stuff, not bought the newie yet but like Viva la Vida. They were one of the first bands I ever saw live while I was at college in the musical wilderness years of 'the new acoustic movement' (praise be to The Strokes appearing the year after) but they were very good considering it was a rotating headliner tour with Terris (exactly) where they were doing the support that night. I went off the back of Shiver coming out and loving it, and though they're a very different band now (Chris Martin was scarily shy) I'm still a fan of their tunes. Might be a bit wet for some peoples tastes, but not everything needs to be loud guitars.

    I hate Fix You though...

    Haha good point mate :p
Knew it sounded wrong after I posted it.

Radiohead were never commercial though until today and now they're ****e.
The White Stripes were commercial rock I guess if you're going to base them on Seven Nation Army like a lot of people do. Their other songs are crazy and quirky though with brilliant guitar riffs ;)

You don't have to tell me, I love both bands. King of Limbs wasn't great but Radiohead aren't ****e, and that album certainly isn't commercial.

Of course Coldplay can write good songs, that's been proven - my main criticism of them is that they've spent the last few albums cashing in on "stadium epic rock" without particularly pushing their sound forward. Also, they write lyrics which are very generic, and people think "they're singing about my life" when in fact their so general and vague that you can interpret them to mean anything e.g. "tears stream down your face when you lose something you can't replace"

They claim to be big fans of radiohead but do not seem to want to "do a radiohead" and try and evolve their sound rather than churning out the same old stuff.

Maybe ****e is a tad harsh, they decided to drop the guitar (Greenwood) and move to computer basically for their last album. And here I am an absolute addict to Bends, OK Computer, Pablo Honey and Kid A finding myself in front of a complete new way of recording. I guess they built it up with Amnesiac but still disappointed.

Yeah disappointment is the word if you understand where I'm coming from :)

I think that probably reflects my view actually. Some good songs but they aren't going to change my life and I'm very unlikely to pay £60 or whatever to watch them in some enormodome. I paid a fiver to see them in a pub in the Boro...
