O'Toole is scheduled to return to Colchester next Tuesday so if the Rotherham game goes ahead on Saturday, then this will be his last game in a Rovers shirt. However, John Ward confirmed today that Colchester have no objections to granting an extension and now the decision to stay or not with Rovers rests solely with the midfielder himself. JW said: "I've spoken to Joe Dunne and the decision is really down to John-Joe now. Joe has gone on record to say that John-Joe is unlikely to play if he goes back there, so Colchester are happy to let us keep him for the next couple of months with a 24 hour recall. John-Joe has one more game with us and he knows I want to keep him. I'm hopeful that he will want to stay here and enjoy being part of a football club that is progressing." Great news! O'toole has said he wants to play games. Colchester has said he wont get games with them, we want him and can offering him the games he wants and the chance to be a fans favourite by helping to save us. The decision is his!
There is no doubt now that JJ is alone in the hot seat. He alone will make the decision to see out the season with us or have a non-playing role at Colchester. I am still concerned that his decision may rest on how he perceives what may happen over the next 20 games if he stays at the Gas. No young player wants a relegation pinned on his CV; even worse if that relegation were to be out of League football and into the Conference. So perhaps how he decides may reflect on how he feels things may pan out for us.
I'm a bit concerned that he's holding out for a better offer from another club. However, he will be very welcome to come back to the Rovers given his performances up 'til now.
JJ knows we all want him back. We also know he is a better player than for the bottom of Div. 4. I don't blame him for keeping his options open until the last minute to see if a club in a better position can guarantee him a game. I just hope he does eventually stay with us.
Lets hope that Ward is able to secure his services with a contract if we stay up .With all the buzz around the new stadium build and recent additions to the squad perhaps JJ will feel we are a club that has potential. It is a big decision if he perm signs for us.A loan basis not so much as its just about being in the shop window. Everything crossed we need him with the fight to come. COR
That is good news. It's all been good news the last week or two, I just hope our bubble doesn't burst on Friday. A win will be a pivotal point in our season and I won't be there
