Hi Guys If we do not get Rose in the summer what are your opinions of making a L/B out of colbeck the lad has done pretty decent when he has played there and after Vaughans performance yesterday he showed what our midfield is missing a creative midfielder who can hold the ball up. I have always said Colbeck and Catts are not a good pairing in the middle anyway
For me lb is the only position Colback has a chance of making it in the premier league. He's not dynamic enough to play cm IMO but has looked excellent at lb every time I've seen him play there. BTW I'm still desperate for us to sign rose to play either lb or on the wing for us
If we cant get Rose (I personally think a deal could well be done) then we need to look elsewhere as although Colback covers the position well in certain games, he ISNT my long term solution there. I like Jack and have followed his career from the youth team/reserve team (he captained) at Hetton to his debut and devleopment the SOL. He never fails to give his all and rarely lets us down tbf but you have to ask these questions. Is he better than Rose at LB? No. Is he better than Catts at CM? No. Can he play on the wing? No. We cannot allow sentiment to cloud our judgement when planning the development and progress of the club. Better players than Jack will be required if we are to make a top 10 upwards our goal and although I'm happy to keep him here to fill in when required I am much happier to see us chasing the likes of Sissoko and signing N'Diaye for the middle of the park and bringing the likes of Rose in at specialist LB positions. Jack is a good lad and all round team player and if he is happy to be used in this way then all well and good. If not then he will go the way of Meyler, Mohammady etc.
