To be honest probably not where I would like to see him used, but until I actually see him play there I will reserve judgement.

As far as I am concerned (and admittedly this is a big call and many will disagree) I think Colback is up amongst the best "technical" football players we have, even at this stage in his career. He defends well, he does not give the ball away, and his passing is superb. Eventually if he will be required to play in the center of midfield, as Cattermole will no doubt get injured, or even more likely, get suspended. If that happens, I cannot see Cattermole getting back in the side.

Apart from Cattermoles bigger engine, Colback is twice the footballer.

I'd be very nervous if this was the case. He and Larsson are never gonna get to the bye line and deliver a cross and this will make us very predictable. I also think that Colbeck could be our most effective midfielder if he is played in the right position where he is able to dictate the game.

I hope not we have used square pegs in round holes for too long. I think richardson and malbranque should fill that role and leave colback to fight for a CM spot in the side.

Like Aussie has already stated, Colback is an extremely talented young player. He looked so comfortable in the central midfield role towards the end of last season, so it will be interesting to see how he performs in the wide role. However, I still think his long-term future lies in the central role.

Tut tut, will we never learn. He is a CM.

But on a positive note he does say that he is happy to play L/W and that's encouraging, unlike Vaughan who say's he doesn't want to play there.

Looks like another season without a left wing though doesnt it, still if we survive and get another top ten finish next season then surely in the summer we can add a quality left winger & left back

I like his attitude of 'i'll play anywhere', but like all of the above, i think he's wasted there.

He should start at Liverpool, it's Catts who needs to win the place, as Jack EARNED it with his form last 6-7 games.

I am coming to terms with the fact there's no left winger, so we need to play Ricco, and hope he steps up at long last.

He does have the talent to do it, maybe he needs us behind him to give him a boost, i'd be more comfortable with Bardo left back Ricco left mid than with Ricco left back and anyone else left mid, personally.

He's lost on the wing doesn't have a clue what to do there put him in his preferred position CM and stop messing lads about unnecessarily. Fair enough Bruce might be trying him there as a stop gap in case of injuries but, why not try the young uns out there you might find a gem of a player right under your nose.

    What Prison B said.

Class CM why oh why f*ck about playing people out of position AGAIN. Hendo, right winger played CM, Colback CM played left wing.

Ive said it before and I will say it again, we need people in their natural positions. We have 1 left sided player and that's Richardson we must buy another natural left sided player. I am sure we will sign someone else (even if its on loan) but I guess Bruce is looking for cover in case of injury or suspension. In that situation Colback on the left with Richardson over lapping would be acceptable, what would be a complete disaster is if Richardson was injured too and we had 2 right sided players on the left.

We need pace on the wings, pace wins games in the EPL.

I was thinking about this for a bit. Like many on here, I massively rate the lad and think his long term future should be as a CM.

However, it looks like Catts and Gardner will be the first-choice partnership, with Vaughan offering cover, and Meyler when he's back fit. On the left (presuming SB is telling the truth and we're done buying) we've only really got Malbranque and Richardson. I'd rather see Colback get the games to develop as a player, and therefore, if he's willing and looks ok in training, I'd give him that LM spot. Richardson at LB (Bardo at RB) and we'd have his pace as support, and Colback's defensive capability when we're under the cosh.

If Catts and Gardner start in the middle, then the choice for Colback is LM or bench. Give him LM, give him minutes on the pitch, let him develop as a player and let's see where it goes..?

    Bardsley - O'Shea - Bramble - Richardson
    Larsson - Catts - Gardner - Colback
    Sess - Gyan

....I wouldn't be unhappy with that at all. Defensive discipline with help from midfield if needed. Left footers on the left, right footers on the right, goals throughout the team from every position bar GK..

To be fair if Colback plays on the left wing all season and gets sold for 19-20 mil I won't cry about it.

Here's something radical. Lets go find a proper left-sided midfielder and get them in.

Stop fa**y**g about SNQ / Bruce.
