He performs well at left back but what does he offer in central midfield?

He never tackles, he's not a defensive mid nor an attacking mid, the game passes him by and his forward passing is atrocious. He is always weak and easily pushed around. One of our main issues is our inability to win the midfield battle and this hurts us dearly. Colback is a big reason for this. He's a bottom half performer at best in the centre mid.

It pains me to see so many fans rate him there because 'he's neat and tidy' but actually does very little else. We need a Dembele, Fellaini, Adam, Cabaye etc alongside Catt's. Someone who can create goals, score them and isn't afraid of a tackle. Until we get that we will stagnate in mid table obscurity. Colback is not the answer people!

Central midfield is the main weak area in the team. It might as well not be there on some occasions as the opposing team just pass them by. Colback is another prime example of Sunderland fans overrating someone because he's neat on the ball. Neat yes, creative no, can tackle no, scores goals no, joins attacks no.

A centre mid should be first name on the list in January if not we will finish 13th - 17th. Colback will not lead us towards Europe or a top 8th finish i'm afraid. He just doesn't offer enough in the midfield and we are weakening the team playing him there!

    Colback plays his heart out...
    Colback can tackle...
    Colback can pass...
    Colback can (although rarely) shoot...
Colback is also 21 and has a lot to learn which I'm sure he is aware of...
Colback needs to add attacking minded play to his game, once he does he will be a good all round midfielder...

There was a reason UTD were being linked with him...

I can never remember Narnowt Lee posting anything other than a wind up, so please take this thread with the pinch of salt it warrants..

This. He is still developing in every game but because he's not the finished article yet people want to replace him before he can mature as a player.

when will you learn that just because i post something different to the norm it isn't a wind up?

Colback isn't all that and our centre midfield is our weakest area

    It's FACT!

Don't mind Colback....don't mind Catts. Hate them both together in the middle. Both pretty much defensive/pass sideways/can't score midfield plodders. So (I kind of agree with you that) we need one or the other with a better ball playing/passing/creative/goal scoring midfielder.

We are attempting a 4-2-3-1 formation I believe but due to the way we play it ends up 4-4-2.

People go on about Migs distribution but he must be under instruction to punt it.

Sess' is supposed to be the creative player, he isn't doing it at the moment although the signs in the second half against Liverpool showed he is improving

Football's all about opinions I suppose.
It's just. Your opinion is wrong. You cant be right all the time.

Colback isnt Paul Scholes but he aint Jeff Whitley either.

The lad has improved year on year and currently is worthy of his place. He is a young lad with all the rigth attributes to become a top player (he needs to get some shooting practice in mind) and I dont recognise Newtons description of him at all.

However, its not wrong to suggest we should always be looking to do better if finance and availability arises. For example, given the choice between Felaini or Colback who would you rather have? Our problem is we cant attract the Felaini's of this world and dont see that much better than Jack for decent money.

For instance, if that lad Joe Allen is worth £15m on Saturdays evidence, I'll shove carrots up my arse for a fortnight.

I agree with you when you say a centre mid should be the first name on the list and it is the weak link in the team now because there is no creativity in there but Colback is not a bad player, he is a very good player the only problem is Catts and Colback as a partnership do not offer enough quality on the ball to dictate the play, control the tempo, put there foot on the ball and grab us by the scruff of the neck and drive us over the line.

Westwood didn't punt it when he played in the cup. He looked for a pass and looked to set up attacks rather than hitting it long. I just don't think mig is as capable of playing "football" as Westwood.

It's all about opinions, I like Jack and see him improving year on year yet a lot go on about Myler but although I think he's decent to me he is nothing more than a squad player.
