I see our England International Colback has been omitted from the latest England squad.

Goalkeepers: Fraser Forster (Southampton), Ben Foster (West Bromwich Albion), Joe Hart (Manchester City)

Defenders: Leighton Baines (Everton), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Nathaniel Clyne (Southampton), Kieran Gibbs (Arsenal), Phil Jagielka (Everton), John Stones (Everton)

Midfielders: Fabian Delph (Aston Villa), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Adam Lallana (Liverpool), James Milner (Manchester City), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal), Jonjo Shelvey (Swansea City), Raheem Sterling (Liverpool), Andros Townsend (Tottenham Hotspur), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal)

Forwards: Rickie Lambert (Liverpool), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Daniel Welbeck (Arsenal).

I'm flabberghasted that Roy has again overlooked the mercurial talents of Cattermole though. <whistle>

And quite rightly so. Although as always there are some picks that beggar belief. Andros Townsend? Really? You don't have to earn your spot in England squads any more.

Andros Townsend is a poor choice having done nothing to warrant it recently. As for Johnjo Shelvey, Roy Hodgson really is scraping the barrel. The man hasn't got a clue and no wonder we are rubbish.

All joking and rivalry aside, do you seriously not think Catts is deserving of a call up given the likes of Shelvey, Colback and Delph in CM have been?

Actually, benchmarking against those lads I'd say yes.
e's be useful against attacking teams to keep hold of the ball in the middle.
I personally think Colback and Cattermole are not 'England standard'.. whatever that means these days.
At the end of the day though, if we have average players and a great team... I'd take that over a team of stars and a poor team.

No, you guys booed him last season. Not a fan of Delph and Colback had a poor September IMO. For me the one player who can feel most hard done by is Nathan Dyer.

We weren't very good last season bar the spell at the end and the odd couple of matches. Players and teams doing badly often get booed. I'm sure you lot do the same. This calendar year though, he has come on leaps and bounds and is far better than some that have been called up. Dyer is a winger.

England standard ain't what it used to be/

Not for me mate. Although some might see it as unfair but really you can't just ignore past reputation. Cattermole is paying for the way he chose to conduct himself on the field, even if he has cleaned that up in the last 18 months. Imagine if he gets sent off in a big game, Roy Hodgson would be absolutely hounded for selecting him. Why should the England manager put his neck on the block for him? If Cattermole was streets ahead of Delph or Shelvey then it would be worthwhile but he certainly isn't, arguably they are better than him. If he hadn't been such a vile little cretin for 5 years he would probably be getting more of a look. As for Colback he should never have been considered.

Cattermole is nothing more than a thug. One card away from a premiership record and in his 20's. Says it all really.

That aimed at me? Are you trying to say he has never been a thug on the football pitch? Or that he is streets ahead of Shelvey and Delph? If so I will reply that you clearly haven't seen much of Shelvey or, in particular, Delph.

Can play central and width. Still should be in the England squad. Never been convinced about Cattermole.

Agree too many foreigners in the game and all the top flight clubs are bothered about signing players than giving youth a chance IMO.

But that's not what I've said at all. I haven't said he was a thug or he was not. I haven't said that he was streets ahead of either.

What I have said is that if players of that ilk Are being called up, then cattermole should there too.

It was always going to be like this with the old guard finally gone.

I think Shelvey deserves a chance, played well last season, continued in the same vein this season.
Better than anyone either Newcastle or Sunderland have to offer England.
Other than Dyer instead of Townsend, about what you would expect with a squad in transition.

No, because with Shelvey and Delph there is little risk as they have no history of ill discipline. If you complete wipe out the first 5 years of Cattermole's career and look at the last 1 and a half, I would agree with you.

I'd agree he deserves a chance. I would rather England tried to play Premier League type football rather than slow it down and try and match the opposition and he could be good as a pressing/holding midfielder as long as he can keep it under control. Delph came close to getting sent off in the last England game through overenthusiastic tackling in the first half.

I think we all have this high idea of what the England standard is and it's slipped dramatically over the last few years. If we dont have better players then these are England standard so reward them for the way they are playing with their clubs at the moment.
